Pele has teamed up with Fortnite and Epic Games to spread the word of the great man's career, so the youths of today will know just how good he was - which he'll probably tell you, is better than Messi and Ronaldo.

Anyway, this new tournament is going to get underway soon, and with a whole bunch of football clubs signed up to it, it promises to be a cracking event. But what exactly do you need to know about the Pele Cup?

What is the Pele Cup?

As mentioned, the brand new game mode pays homage to Pele and his World Cup winning heroics. It will be a limited time game mode, allowing players to switch from the usual rigours of winning Battle Royale matches to taking part in football themed events.

Players will compete in the Pele Cup to beat their rivals and win a number of prizes, including 'skins' of their favourite football teams, 23 of which have signed up to be part of the fun. Each player can take part in a maximum of 10 matches over the course of a three hour session, and will earn a ranking based on points scored during the competition. The tournament begins on January 20.

Which football club skins are available?

The Pele Cup has attracted Europe's biggest names, with some of the most famous clubs in the world agreeing to a collaboration with Epic and Fortnite. This means that your character could wear the strip of British sides Manchester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham United, Celtic or Rangers.

Four of Italy's powerhouses have also signed up for the competition, with Juventus, Milan, Inter and AS Roma all joining the competition, while German clubs VfL Wolfsburg, Borussia Mönchengladbach and FC Schalke are on the list too.

Sevilla are Spain's sole representatives, while Sporting FC fly the flag for Portugal. Given that the Pele Cup is centred around the legend himself, it's no shock that Santos FC and EC Bahia have also agreed to join forces with Epic.

And of course, the United States of America is also heavily represented, with Seattle Sounders FC, Atlanta United and Los Angeles FC all involved. Australian sides Melbourne City FC, Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers have agreed to the collaboration too, while Japanese outfit Cerezo Osaka are the final addition.

How to obtain Pele's air punch

To pay further homage to the great Pele, players can obtain the striker's famous air punch celebration. They can do this in two ways: the air punch emote can either be purchased from the Fortnite item shop from January 23, or you can win the air punch through your ranking in the Pele Cup on January 20.

What prizes are up for grabs?

As for the prizes in the Pele Cup, there are plenty of different rewards for players to enjoy. Players can win the brand new kits of the selected teams, or they can earn Pele's Air Punch' emote, so you have the chance to celebrate victory as he did in the World Cup.

The tournament will also be divided into regional winners, allowing those who ranked top in their area to receive a signed Santos jersey, while the highest ranked 3,500 players in each region will be awarded the air punch and certain character outfits.
