2020 was a turbulent year for Manchester United.

They recovered from the club's worst ever start to a Premier League season to eventually finish in the Champions League places - and celebrated this achievement by spectacularly crashing out of the Champions League.

But for all the ups and downs, one thing that remained steady and consistently strong was their form away from home against fellow top flight sides.

The Red Devils embarked on a club-record away winning run against Premier League opposition in June 2020, so we here at 90min thought it would be nice to remember - and honour - those who fell along the way.

Extra time was required for Manchester United's first win in their winning streak, as they beat Norwich (still a top flight outfit back in the heady days of June 2020) at Carrow Road in the FA Cup quarter finals.

The Red Devils fielded a fringe side against the Canaries, Odion Ighalo opening the scoring with a wonderfully improvised finish.

Todd Cantwell levelled for the hosts with a fabulous solo effort, who then saw Timm Klose dismissed in the final minute of normal time. With the game heading for penalties, Harry Maguire bundled home United's winner in what felt like the 188th minute.

2. Brighton 0-3 Manchester United, 30 June 2020

United's Champions League qualification hopes gathered pace with a vibrant 3-0 victory over Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

A typical low, left footed Mason Greenwood drive gave United the lead, before a deflected Bruno Fernandes effort doubled their advantage before the first half was out.

Fernandes was on the scoresheet once more in the second half, being picked out superbly by Marcus Rashford and slamming a thumping first time volley past Mat Ryan.

Fernandes and Greenwood were again instrumental as United moved to within a point of fourth spot with victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Fernandes won and converted a spot kick to put United in front, and Greenwood scored a stunning strike from the edge of the area in first half stoppage time.

United put the game beyond Villa as Paul Pogba found the bottom corner from range just before the hour mark.

The Red Devils remained level on points with fourth place Leicester with a hard fought 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Rashford opened the scoring for United in first half stoppage time via a fabulous dummy and cool finish.

He turned provider for United's second as Anthony Martial applied the finishing touches to a slick team move 12 minutes from time to wrap up the three points.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side booked their place in the Champions League with a win over fellow top four rivals Leicester at King Power on the final day of the 2019/20 campaign.

The Red Devils only needed a draw to confirm their top four place but took all three points thanks to a Fernandes penalty and Jesse Lingard's first goal of the season - in the 98th minute. Former United defender Jonny Evans saw red for the hosts in injury time.

6. Brighton 2-3 Manchester United, 26 September 2020

United registered their first win of the 2020/21 season in unconvincing style with victory over Brighton at the Amex.

A Neal Maupay penalty and a Lewis Dunk own goal left the scores level at half time, before Rashford produced a moment of individual brilliance to give United a 55th minute lead.

And then the madness ensued. Solly March equalised for Brighton in the 95th minute - only for VAR to award United a penalty after the final whistle for handball. Fernandes duly dispatched in the 10th minute of stoppage time.

The Amex became a happy hunting ground for United in 2020 as they tasted victory on the south coast for the second time in four days to progress in the Carabao Cup.

The midweek tie was a slightly less dramatic affair, as United's fringe side got the better of Brighton's fringe side.

Scott McTominay, Juan Mata and Pogba were on the scoresheet for the Red Devils, with Mata's well worked team goal the pick of the bunch.

8. Newcastle 1-4 Manchester United , 17 October 2020

United left it very, very late to record an ultimately convincing win over Newcastle at St James' Park.

The scores had been level until the 86th minute - a Maguire header cancelling out Luke Shaw's own goal - before the Red Devils netted three times late on to seal victory.

Fernandes atoned for a rare missed spot kick with a thunderous finish four minutes from time, Aaron Wan-Bissaka grabbed his first goal for the club and Rashford struck in the sixth minute of injury time as United bounced back from their 6-1 mauling at the hands of Spurs in style.

9. Everton 1-3 Manchester United, 7 November 2020

Fernandes, him again, was again instrumental as United recovered from their humiliating midweek Champions League loss to Istanbul Basaksehir with victory at Goodison Park.

Solskjaer's side had trailed to a 19th minute Bernard strike, but were leading by half time as the Portuguese netted a brace. Edinson Cavani then scored his first goal for the club in second half injury time to wrap up a ninth consecutive win.

Nine became ten when United completed a remarkable comeback againstSouthampton, coming from 2-0 down at half-time to win 3-2.

Jan Bednarek and James Ward-Prowse had given the leads a two goal advantage at the break, but the halftime introduction of Cavani proved decisive.

The Uruguayan set up Fernandes for United's first, before netting a headed brace - the second in the 92nd minute - to give the Red Devils all three points.

11. West Ham 1-3 Manchester United, 5 December 2020

If you hadn't noticed the theme already, United absolutely loved going a goal down.

Things were no different at the London Stadium as West Ham took a deserved lead thanks to Tomas Soucek. But one suspect Dean Henderson kick later and the tide was turned, as Pogba swept a majestic effort past Lukasz Fabianski to rub into David Moyes' face that VAR clearly has a blind spot.

Before you knew it, Greenwood and Rashford had added two more and it was game, set and match.

Just when you thought United might stop falling behind, they went a goal down at basement boys Sheffield United in the first five minutes.

David McGoldrick was the man on hand to benefit from a horrendous Henderson error, but Rashford goals either side of half-time and Martial's first of the 2020/21 season turned the tide.

The Blades scored again late on through McGoldrick, but it was too little, too late.

13. Everton 0-2 Manchester United

United booked their place in the Carabao Cup semi finals for the second successive season with a tense 2-0 win at Goodison Park.

The Red Devils dominated for large spells while Everton hardly threatened - but Solskjaer's side were made to wait until the 88th minute before breaking down Carlo Ancelotti's men.

Cavani was the man to thank this time, as his stunning effort broke the deadlock, before Martial netted in the 96th minute to seal the deal.
