Erik ten Hag reveals Man Utd's plan to stop James Ward-Prowse

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has explained how he plans to stop Southampton's James Ward-Prowse ahead of their Premier League meeting on Sunday.

The club captain has been a shining light for the Saints over a disappointing few seasons, becoming one of the country's most feared free-kick takers.

He is now one direct free-kick goal from tying David Beckham's Premier League record of 18, and could move level with the legendary right-sided midfielder against United on Sunday.

Ten Hag was asked about how United plan to stop Ward-Prowse, providing a rather simple answer.

"Yeah, he is always an issue when you play against Southampton and you play Ward-Prowse. Don’t give the easy free-kicks because he has the capabilities to net. So don’t bring them in that position because he can," the United boss said.

"We also have a good goalie to deal with such situations but you don’t want to take that risk. There are no easy games. We have seen. We have to bring the performance, we have to play to our levels, so it’s all about us.

"When we play a good opponent, and there are no easy games, when you don’t bring the level, you get punished. Either you lose or you lose strong. We have to avoid that. We have to be ready so we have to recover now and go for part two of our rehabilitation."
