England continue their preparations for the 2022 World Cup when they host Ivory Coast at Wembley on Tuesday night.

Although more warm-up games will likely be organised later in the year, this currently represents the Three Lions' last scheduled fixture before the showpiece event gets underway in Qatar in November.

Gareth Southgate's side underwhelmed against Switzerland on Saturday but still emerged from that friendly with a 2-1 victory courtesy of a Luke Shaw strike and a Harry Kane penalty.

Ivory Coast are the visitors on Tuesday evening - the first time England have faced African federation opposition since June 2018, when they beat Nigeria in the build-up to the 2018 World Cup.

England team news

Southgate has a couple of fresh issues to contend with among his already much-changed squad. Arsenal attacker Emile Smith Rowe missed the Switzerland win with a knock, while Man City centre-back John Stones was pulled from the starting lineup after injuring himself in the warm-up.

Defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James, striker Tammy Abraham and goalkeeper Sam Johnstone - who himself was a replacement for the injured Aaron Ramsdale - had all already withdrawn from the squad through injury, and winger Bukayo Saka followed after a positive Covid-19 test.

The England boss has confirmed he will make wholesale changes to his starting lineup, so expect plenty of rotation here.

Ivory Coast team news

The Elephants come into this one having been beaten by France in Marseille last time out.

They didn't suffer any injuries there, but Christian Kouame, Hamed Traore and Wilfried Singo all withdrew from the squad ahead of that defeat.

Head coach Patrice Beaumelle is expected to name a strong side, and there should be plenty of Premier League representation with the likes of Wilfried Zaha, Nicolas Pepe - who scored fine goal against the French - and Maxwel Cornet among his squad.

England vs Ivory Coast head-to-head record

These two nations have never faced off at senior level, and it may be a while before they do again too as the Ivorians have failed to reach the 2022 World Cup after coming up short in the ridiculously competitive CAF qualifiers.

This is the first time England have faced non-European opposition since November 2018 when they beat the USA at Wembley.

England vs Ivory Coast score prediction

Southgate has already revealed that he intends to make sweeping changes to his England lineup, and that could make for another disjointed performance following the comeback win over the Swiss.

Just as they did against World champions France, a strong Ivory Coast XI could pose problems if the Three Lions are not switched on, but expect England to come through this test with another narrow victory.

Score prediction: England 2-1 Ivory Coast
