How is Euro 2020 only a matter of weeks away? Y'know, except for the fact it's a year late.

We've been so busy convincing ourselves that Phil Foden is ten times the player Andres Iniesta ever was and that England are definitely going to win this summer's tournament, that we forgot about the fact that the opening ceremony is just around the corner!

Obviously that's good news in the sense we don't have to go too long without football once the domestic season wraps up - but there's a downside...

A whole host of players who'd usually be in contention for a spot in Gareth Southgate's squad this summer are either out injured or just regaining fitness, casting doubt over their participation in this summer's delay Euro 2020 finals.

90min has provided you with a rundown of every potential squad member facing a race against time to be fit for Southgate's squad announcement on 25 May.

1. Harry Maguire

This is an absolutely massive one... plus he might not be fit in time for Euro 2020.

Harry Maguire is expected to miss the remainder of Manchester United's Premier League campaign after picking up an ankle injury in the recent win over Aston Villa.

The centre-back was pictured on crutches at Old Trafford prior to United's defeat to Leicester and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already confirmed the best case scenario is he's fit in time for the Europa League final on May 26 - one day after Southgate's squad announcement.

There are more talented English players, of course, but given the alternatives Maguire really is a crucial part of the squad and his race to be fit could be key to the Three Lions' chances.

2. Jack Grealish

Aston Villa's charge for a place in Europe has lost momentum since talisman Jack Grealish picked up an injury in February.

The twinkle-toed forward has joined his teammates in a couple of training sessions over the past few weeks, though Dean Smith has still be unable to provide a date for when he could return to first-team duties.

With so few games of the season remaining, even if Grealish does return before the end of the campaign he's going to be weeks away from regaining full match sharpness and Southgate may opt against including him in the squad.

3. Declan Rice

Declan Rice has also recently resumed training having not featured for West Ham since the end of March.

David Moyes has reiterated on a number of occasions that he hopes to welcome the midfielder back into the fold before the end of the season, though he too will only be given a small period of time to prove to Southgate that he's ready.

Jude Bellingham's stellar display for England during the March international break may play a factor as Southgate weighs up the pros and cons of gambling on Rice's fitness.

4. Jordan Henderson

Another automatic starter in England's midfield.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has dodged any questions relating to whether Jordan Henderson could feature for England this summer, though he has now provided an update: "I think there's a chance, for sure – unfortunately not for us, but for England then," he told the club's official website.

Including him in the squad after such a long injury lay off is again a huge risk, but given the leadership skills Henderson has shown at both club and international level you'd fancy Southgate to be willing to include him in the squad if possible.

5. Callum Wilson

There's never a good time to get an injury, but Callum Wilson looked to have timed his perfectly having missed nearly two months of action after picking up a knock against Southampton in February.

The Newcastle forward was eased back into first-team action by Steve Bruce before notching a brace against Leicester to kickstart his quest to prove his fitness - and now he's injured again.

The club offered no timescale on the hamstring injury though they did confirm he wouldn't feature for the Magpies again this season, meaning Euro 2020 looks a pipedream for the former Bournemouth man.

6. Danny Ings

Wilson's loss could end up being Danny Ings' gain...

The Southampton man has notched nearly a goal every other game in the Premier League this season, though his injury problems have continued to hamper his progress.

Ings was thrown back into the starting XI by Ralph Hasenhuttl against Crystal Palace recently and he did brilliantly to notch a brace in the Saints' 3-1 win, though he was removed with 15 minutes remaining.

The former Liverpool man certainly seems to on his way back to full fitness, you just hope being rushed back into action doesn't have any side effects in the coming weeks.

7. Joe Gomez

Joe Gomez would almost certainly be included in Southgate's squad if it wasn't for injury.

The Liverpool man has missed almost the entire season having undergone surgery to repair a tendon in his knee last November.

The nasty injury was picked up while on international duty, though it seems highly unlikely his first appearance back will be with England this summer. Klopp has confirmed the defender is in the last phase of his rehab, though after such a lengthy layoff he'll need months to get fully back up to speed.

8. Harvey Barnes

Harvey Barnes was enjoying a superb season before being forced to undergo knee surgery in March.

The initial diagnosis was that the youngster would be out for around six weeks, though two and a half months on he still finds himself in the treatment room.

Brendan Rodgers has refused to speculate over a return date, but for now it's really not looking good in terms of his Euro 2020 chances.
