England's round of 16 opponents at Euro 2020 have been confirmed as Germany.

Gareth Southgate's men secured top spot in Group D on Tuesday night by earning their second 1-0 win of the tournament against the Czech Republic at Wembley.

Their status as group winners is supposed to have handed them a favourable draw in the first knockout round, though it's now been confirmed they'll play Germany on Tuesday 29 June at 17:00 (GMT).

Joachim Low's side were held to a 2-2 draw by Hungary and were twice forced to come from behind to earn a point in their final Group F outing.

Having fallen behind to a Adam Szalai goal, Kai Havertz's second-half strike pulled them level, though Hungary immediately hit back through Andras Schafer. Low's side looking to be heading out of the competition, but Leon Goretzka's 84th-minute strike ensured it would be them heading to Wembley to face England on Tuesday.

While England couldn't have asked for a much tougher second-place opponent having finished top of their group, Germany certainly won't be relishing the prospect of facing the Three Lions.

Not only do England boast home advantage with their first knockout game to be played at Wembley, Southgate's side have also yet to concede a goal in this summer's tournament.

Having opened their campaign with a solid if not spectacular win over Croatia courtesy of Raheem Sterling's second-half strike, England were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw by fierce rivals Scotland as Steve Clarke's side picked up their only point of the tournament.

Southgate's side needed to take all three points from their final group game against the Czech Republic to ensure they finished top of Group D, and once again Sterling proved to be the man of the hour as his first-half header secured a 1-0 win.
