England 0-1 Denmark: Player Ratings as Three Lions Slip to Disappointing Nations League Defeat

England followed up their impressive win over Belgium by slumping to a 1-0 home defeat to Denmark in Wednesday's Nations League group stage clash.

Having started brightly, the Three Lions were reduced to ten men after two needless, lazy yellow cards from Harry Maguire. A penalty for Denmark followed soon after, one Christian Eriksen tucked away. Barring a pair of Mason Mount and Conor Coady headers, England never came close to equalising after that.

England Player Ratings

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Jordan Pickford (GK) - 4/10 - Walker may have conceded the penalty, but he was put off by a bizarre decision from Pickford to come flying off his line. Didn't even look comfortable with the ball at his feet, either.

Kyle Walker (CB) - 5/10 - England's best play came down the right hand side, where Walker played some incisive passes and produced some dangerous crosses into the box in the first half. Couldn't make his mark on the second period.

Conor Coady (CB) - 6/10 - Is Coady the best central defender England have? Yes, you'd have to say so at the moment. Very hard to make a case for anyone else. Is vocal, disciplined and solid in the air. Shame the rest are no good.

Harry Maguire (CB) - 1/10 - Having made a poor error for the first yellow card, he followed that up with another mistake, which then followed another, resulting in a second yellow. So, so, so bad from the most expensive defender in the world.

2. Wing-Backs & Midfielders

Reece James (RWB) - 7/10 - Was possibly England's best player prior to being shunted out on the left after Maguire's sending off. His interchanging with Mount was some of the best seen this international break for the Three Lions. Was randomly sent off after the full time whistle.

Declan Rice (CM) - 5/10 - Passed the ball well, but never with much purpose. With Phillips tasked with being the deeper lying of the two, Rice needed to provide more progression.

Kalvin Phillips (CM) - 6/10 - Only making his debut last month, Phillips has taken to his role at the base of midfield effortlessly. He isn't progressive with his passing, but he's not supposed to be. Composed in and out of possession once again on Wednesday.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles (RWB) - 4/10 - Didn't get chance to impress on his first England start, with most of the play coming down the right side before he was subbed to make up for Maguire's sending off.

3. Forwards

Mason Mount (RW) - 6/10 - Was part of England's biggest threat in the first half alongside James, but for all his hard work in the opening 30 minutes, his role in the side diminished rapidly as soon as Maguire was sent off. Not his fault though, and still some encouraging signs.

Harry Kane (ST) - 4/10 - Didn't look 100% at it at Wembley, with a few of his touches not quite as polished usual. Was left chasing shadows in the second period.

Marcus Rashford (LW) - 5/10 - Barely got into the game barring a select few runs down the flank, with the majority of England's play coming on the other side of the pitch. Nevertheless, did his defensive duties well as cover for whoever Southgate fancied playing left-back for five minutes.
