Chelsea boss Emma Hayes has won the Barclays WSL manager of the month award for March after guiding her team to four consecutive wins, scoring 17 and conceding only once.
Those four victories ultimately saw the Blues finish the month of March top of the WSL table for the first time this season after leapfrogging Arsenal.
Chelsea began March by thrashing West Ham in a potentially tricky London derby. Pernille Harder’s first half brace either side of one from Niamh Charles made it a comfortable win, with Sam Kerr going on to seal in the second half. Dagny Brynjarsdottir’s consolation remains the last goal they have conceded, coming into top form at the right time in defence of their title.
A few days later, it was a different kind of win at home at Aston Villa as Kerr eventually found the net in stoppage time to break the resilient visitors.
Chelsea were more comfortable back on the road against Everton when another glut of first half goals decided a one-sided affair within the opening half hour. Kerr was again on the score-sheet, this time complemented by Guro Reiten and Erin Cuthbert.
Hayes’ side saved their biggest March performance until last, putting nine goals past Leicester without reply at the King Power Stadium. Chelsea set a new record that day as the first team to score three goals in the first 10 minutes of a WSL match, whilst also equalling the second biggest margin of victory in the league’s 11-year history.
