Emma Hayes spoke on Chelsea's fixture list affecting the players after their 2-0 loss to Manchester City in the Women's Super League.

Chelsea looked out of ideas and exhausted for the majority of the match, allowing Gareth Taylor's City to to dominate in all areas of the pitch.

Hayes believes that the Blues being in all competitions affected their performance on Sunday afternoon during Women's Football Weekend:

"They [the players] absolutely looked tired. It was a tough game but I'm not going to stand here and say one negative word about my players. I love them, I know how hard they pushed in the second half. I think this was just one game too many for us this week.

"It's so hard to win a league when you are in all competitions, we've had a game every three days. I think today's performance reflected that.

"We lost. I was proud of the second-half performance. I said it was important to get our thoughts into Thursday. It's a tough loss but well done to Manchester City."

Chelsea will hope to put this loss behind them when they host Lyon in the second leg of the quarter-finals of the Women's Champions League on Thursday 30th March.
