Emerson Royal escapes armed robbery without injury

Tottenham defender Emerson Royal has avoided injury after an armed robbery attempt escalated into a gunfight in which 29 shots were fired, according to reports in Brazil.

The incident took place in the early hours of Friday morning in Sao Paulo, where Emerson was on holiday.

According to O Liberal, the Spurs star left a nightclub at 3am and took a photo with an off-duty police officer. He was then approach by an individual who held him at gunpoint and demanded he hand over his belongings.

The officer spotted the assailant and drew his weapon, leading to a firefight in which 29 shots were fired. The report also stated that the robber had to be taken to hospital after one of the bullets struck him in the back.

Emerson was out with family members before the incident with his father telling Globo Esporte: "I was celebrating and on the way out, this whole affair happened, which was very bad. A horror scene indeed. I don't wish that on anyone."

Tottenham are yet to comment on the matter.
