Canada travel to El Salvador on Wednesday knowing they can finally clinch their long-awaited return to the World Cup stage.

John Herdman's side beat the United States in World Cup qualifying for the first time since 1980 on Sunday, maintaining their record as the only unbeaten team in Concacaf after 10 games.

A Canadian win on Sunday, coupled with defeats for the USMNT and Panada, and Costa Rica failing to beat Jamaica would see them qualify for their first World Cup since 1986 and second all-time. That's a hefty set of circumstances, but evidence of just how close this team is to making history.

El Salvador, meanwhile, are clinging onto their qualification hopes with dear life, trailing Panama in the playoff sot by eight points with four games remaining after just two wins from 10 games. Nine points separate them from Mexico in third.

Here's everything you need to know about the game...

El Salvador team news

Hugo Perez didn't pick up any extra injury or suspension headaches during El Salvador's 2-0 win over Honduras last time out and will field his strongest possible team to try and keep their Qatar 2022 dream alive.

Canada are in dreamland after their 2-0 win over the USMNT - all the more impressive given they were without star man Alphonso Davies and influential midfielder Stephan Eustaquio. The latter has rejoined the squad, however, and should be available for selection here.

There were no fresh injuries or suspensions picked up on Sunday, so Canada will be confident of taking another giant leap toward the World Cup.

Cyle Larin will be particularly confident after opening the scoring on Sunday, becoming Canada's record goalscorer in the process.

El Salvador vs Canada head-to-head record

Canada ran out comfortable 3-0 winners the last time these sides met in September thanks to goals from Atiba Hutchinson, Jonathan David, and Tajon Buchanan.

In fact, the Canucks are unbeaten in their last five competitive meetings with El Salvador, though they did lose 1-0 in a friendly back in 2017.

El Salvador vs Canada score prediction

As mentioned, Canada have a great record against El Salvador and would be confident of taking all three points even without their incredible run during this qualifying campaign.

Of course, they remain the only unbeaten team in Concacaf and will be on cloud-nine after beating the United States. Complacency is always a risk after such a famous result, but Herdman seems to have too good a grip on his players for that to come into play.

Three more points and Qatar within their grasp.

Prediction: El Salvador 1-3 Canada
