Less than a week after changing his shirt number at Real Madrid, Eduardo Camavinga has opted for something new.

The super-talented 19-year-old wore the number 25 during his first season at the Santiago Bernabeu, having donned the number 10 shirt at former club Rennes.

But it was announced last week, amid a glut of player departures from Real Madrid, that Camavinga would be taking on the number 16 shirt vacated by Luka Jovic - the powerful striker who was never really given a chance to shine following his move from Eintracht Frankfurt - despite the number being worn by Alvaro Odriozola in pre-season.

It appears there's been a change of heart, however.

Odriozola will instead take the number 16 shirt, with Camavinga now set to wear the number 12 shirt - made famous by the legendary Marcelo, who departed Real Madrid in the summer after a lengthy, and hugely successful, association with the club.

Camavinga made his final appearance in the number 25 shirt in midweek, as Real Madrid cruised to a 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Super Cup final.

With his shirt number now unquestionably sorted, Camavinga's next job is to force his way to Carlo Ancelotti's starting lineup on a regular basis. Fierce competition for places saw the teenager used as more of an impact substitute last season, but his talent and game-changing ability was there for all to see - particularly in the Champions League.

Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Luka Modric, three Real Madrid stalwarts, stand between Camavinga and regular starting minutes, while there's added competition this season from international teammate Aurelien Tchouameni - a player heralded as one of the finest young midfield prospects in world football.
