Eder Militao will return to Real Madrid before the end of the international break and will likely be available for selection for Los Blancos' Copa del Rey tie at Athletic Club on Thursday.

Top-level European football has halted amid an unofficial mini break due to ongoing international fixtures in Asia, Africa and the Americas.

Centre-back Militao had been on international duty with Brazil for their World Cup qualifiers, but will return to Spain sooner than expected.

The defender picked up a booking in the Selecao's chaotic 1-1 draw with Ecuador, meaning he will be suspended for their upcoming clash with Paraguay.

Brazil have granted Militao permission to leave the camp early and return to his club, who will be delighted to see a key player back in the fold for Thursday's quarter-final.

After the summer exits of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane, Militao has formed a solid centre-back partnership with David Alaba, who arrived on a free transfer from Bayern Munich.

Real currently sit four points clear of Sevilla at the top of La Liga - only the Andalusian side have a meaner defensive record than Carlo Ancelotti's men - and will face Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 of the Champions League next month.
