Manchester United have not held talks with Borussia Dortmund over a potential swap deal involving Donyell Malen and Jadon Sancho, sources have told 90min.

24-year-old Malen has been offered to United by intermediaries as they test the water of a potential Premier League move, but there's currently been no movement from the Red Devils.

90min revealed in late October that Sancho is interested in returning to Dortmund in the January transfer window, with no resolution to his falling out with United manager Erik ten Hag appearing to be on the horizon, but a prospective swap deal involving Malen has been played down by sources.

Dortmund are keen to reunite with Sancho after a successful four-year stint in Germany convinced United to part ways with £73m in 2021 in order to sign the then 21-year-old. Sancho scored 50 goals in 137 appearances in all competitions for BVB and was named in the Bundesliga team of the season in two successive seasons.

Things have been far from plain sailing for Sancho at United though, with a meagre return of 12 goals in 82 appearances highlighting his struggles in Manchester. He was dropped from the squad to face Arsenal in September and hasn't been seen since after criticising Ten Hag on social media.

Ten Hag has claimed that Sancho's exile from first team duties is a result of him falling below the cultural standards required to be a United player, with a return to the fold only possible if he accepts responsibility for his shortcomings and apologises for his actions.

90min understands that's unlikely to happen at this stage, given the disconnect between the pair has already rumbled on for over three months, and a return to Dortmund appears to be the most realistic option at this stage.

But although Malen is being offered as a potential makeweight in any deal, United have shown little interest in involving the 24-year-old at this stage. Indeed, United are 'highly unlikely' to make any major bids in January, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe's investment yet to be finalised and the assembling of a new footballing department still to take place.

Arsenal and Liverpool both appreciate Malen's talents, but they too have not engaged in talks and a January move would not appear to be a priority for either.

Juventus are also in the mix for Sancho, potentially complicating matters further, but the decision will ultimately fall to the player, who has made just three Premier League appearances this season and hasn't pulled on an England shirt for two years.
