Djordje Mihailovic draws concern after early exit from CF Montreal match
Midfielder Djordje Mihailovic drew fitness concerns on Saturday after exiting CF Montreal’s match against FC Cincinnati early with an apparent injury.
Mihailovic collided with opponent Junior Moreno just moments after the whistle, and initially played on before eventually being forced off the pitch in the 17th minute.
Prior to Saturday’s match, the midfielder had been in great form. He’s managed seven goals and four assists in 14 appearances for the Canadian MLS side thus far, remaining a relevant competitor of the 2022 Golden Boot race.
His recent form also earned him a call up to Gregg Berhalter’s 27-player USMNT roster for the June international window. The player was set to be a part of the American team as they host Morocco and Uruguay for friendlies before facing Grenada and El Salvador for Concacaf Nations League action.
It stands as a huge opportunity for Mihailovic, who only has six caps with the USMNT. He last featured for Berhalter’s side in December 2020, during a friendly against El Salvador. And with the 2022 World Cup fast approaching, the June window could be Mihailovic’s chance to prove himself as a vital component of the team.
No further details have been provided by CF Montreal about his injury.
