Diogo Dalot Keen on Man Utd Exit After Growing Frustrated at Lack of Opportunities

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot wants to leave the club because he's not happy with his lack of game time, according to a report.

The 21-year-old has been a peripheral figure at Old Trafford since his £19m arrival back in 2018, and made just 11 appearances last season as he struggled with a niggling groin issue.

The versatile Portuguese defender - who can play on either side and also operate as a more forward thinking wing back - is unlikely to improve on that appearance number this season, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams firmly ahead of him in United's defensive pecking order.

It's now been claimed by journalist Duncan Castles (via the Express) that Dalot is dissatisfied with his lack of on-field minutes, and wants to pursue a move away from the club. However, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is currently reluctant to sanction a permanent departure from the club, with a loan deal looking his most likely way out.

Speaking on the Transfer Window podcast, Castles remarked: "They do have to move players out and it's interesting to see what's happening with two guys who've dropped well down the pecking order in that very heavily-staffed defensive section of the Manchester United squad.

"One of them, Diogo Dalot, the young Portuguese under-21 international, who has essentially been relegated to third-choice right-back in the planning Solskjaer is making for the coming season. Wan-Bissaka obviously has that position nailed down.

"I can tell you that Dalot's not happy with his situation at United and is keen to leave, however he doesn't have permission from the club to leave.

"You would think a loan deal would be a viable solution here, a loan with an option to buy in a year's time, allow a player who was extremely highly-rated when he came to the club, picked out of Porto with a limited amount of experience because of the quality of his performances at Porto, [to leave]."

United are in the market for further reinforcements at full back, with Real Madrid's Sergio Reguilon thought to be closing in on a move to Manchester after Sevilla opted against turning his loan into a permanent deal.

If the Spaniard arrives, he'll join Donny van de Beek in United's arrival lounge after the Dutch midfielder wrapped up a move from Ajax earlier in the window.
