Dejan Kulusevski has said that he and his Tottenham teammates were 'excited' by Pedro Porro in their games against Sporting CP this season and they are delighted with his signing.

Spurs spent pretty much all of the January transfer window pursuing the right-back after identifying him as their top target, completing a deal around an hour before Tuesday's deadline.

Once of Manchester City, Porro starred for Sporting in a 2-0 win and 1-1 draw against Tottenham in the group stages of this season's Champions League, and Kulusevski admitted that he left a lasting impression in the Spurs dressing room.

"Pedro had two fantastic games against us, he’s one of the players that really excited all of us," Kulusevski said in an interview with the Guardian.

"There’s a lot of energy in the room with him because you know that a quality player has come in. We just have to get this momentum going now. When you come into a room, you want to change the energy, you want to bring something to the table."

While Porro is expected to be Spurs' first choice right-back moving forward, they had to wave goodbye to Matt Doherty on deadline day.

The Irishman was expected to join Atletico Madrid on a straight loan, but Tottenham had exhausted the number of international loans permitted by FIFA already this season and instead chose to terminate Doherty's contract to allow him to move on a free transfer.

"It’s crazy," Kulusevski said of Doherty's sudden exit. "[I was] shocked when I saw on TV.

"I messaged him straight away and we spoke. It’s sad that he’s not here with us and with me but I’m still happy for him. It’s a fantastic club that he went to."
