Dayot Upamecano insists he remains 'focused' on playing for RB Leipzig despite rumours that he could be set for a move to Manchester United in the future.
The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the best young centre-backs in Europe and his performances in the 2019/20 Champions League - especially a resolute display against Atlético Madrid - didn't go unnoticed.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on adding a balance to his defence by signing a defender with pace who can partner with club captain Harry Maguire, and Upamecano is said to be a priority centre-back target.
He only put pen to paper on a three-year contract extension at Leipzig in July, but the French international was still permitted to talk to other clubs over a possible move.
In a recent TV interview with Telefoot’s Culture Foot, Upamecano spoke about the transfer speculation and put a rest to the rumours that he could move before the end of this window. "For the moment I am with Leipzig but it is true that I was able to discuss with certain clubs," he said.
"As I said, for now I am focused on Leipzig and I will continue to play for Leipzig. And then we’ll see."
United aren't the only club interested in the Frenchman. Barcelona have also been strongly linked with him and Upamecano has admitted that he would like to play with his childhood friend Ousmane Dembélé at some stage in his career.
He continued: "Would I like to play with Ousmane Dembélé again? I would like that, why not? Ousmane is a very good player and we have grown up together. So of course I would like to play with him one day."
Leipzig have put a hefty £60m price tag on Upamecano for now, but a clause in his new contract means that he can leave for as little as £40m next year.
