David Ochoa revealed his desire to move abroad after a turbulent time in Major League Soccer.

The goalkeeper is currently with D.C. United, after securing a trade from Real Salt Lake during the Secondary Transfer Window. But his contract with the Black and Red expires at the end of the 2022 campaign, propelling transfer rumors for the Mexican national team player.

“I would like to play one day in Europe, in the top leagues and top teams, that’s a dream of mine,” he said exclusively to 90min.

“I also never considered a Mexican could play in Europe until I personally saw Chicharito make the jump from Chivas to Manchester United but even before my goal first was always to play in Mexico, I wouldn’t mind at all to play in Liga MX. We’ll see where the future lies. I know there is some interest from teams over there, but I am going to have to think about it well and see what team offers the best pathway for me to reach my goals.”

The goalkeeper stands as a Real Salt Lake academy product, working through the ranks and USL Championship side Real Monarchs before reaching the first team in 2020. He made one appearance during his initial campaign, only kicking off as the starting goalkeeper in 2021.

He managed five clean sheets and 83 saves during that campaign, inspiring Real Salt Lake to a stunning run in the West’s playoffs before ultimately losing to the Portland Timbers in the Conference final.

But Ochoa has yet to see consistent action in 2022. The player has recorded one start under new D.C. United head coach Wayne Rooney, fighting for minutes against Rafael Romo. The team currently stands in last place of the Eastern Conference with just 22 points in 26 games.

With the end of the season quickly approaching, Ochoa could be the next MLS export.

Club America, San Luis and Club Tijuana stood as the three Mexican teams previously interested in the player, but none secured a direct line of communication during the American league's Secondary Transfer Window.
