David Moyes reveals lofty future ambitions for West Ham

West Ham manager David Moyes has rejected the notion that this season is his side's only chance to secure European qualification, instead saying that he wants repeated success.

The Hammers have surprised many people during 2020/21, currently sitting level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea and six clear of Tottenham, who they face in a hotly anticipated London derby on Sunday.

But Moyes doesn't think that this season should be seen as a one off for West Ham and says the club can continue to battle it out near the business end of the Premier League every year.

"I expect us to do it again," Moyes told his latest pre-match press conference, quoted by the Evening Standard. "I expect us to do it next year and I expect us to do it the year after, because that's my job and I'm going to try and make sure that we are a team who's consistently challenging round the top regularly.

"So to say this is your chance to do it or you're not going to do it at all, it's not that way I'm building and what I want to do at the club. I want to build something which is going to be consistent and regular.

"I take your point: you have to take your opportunities when they come along, you know, whether it be in games or whatever. But I'm hoping this is going to be a regular thing and not something which we just do once in a while."

The Hammers currently sit fifth in the table, having won 12 and lost just six of their 24 matches so far. By comparison, at this stage last season, Moyes' Hammers sat 17th and had already lost a whopping 13 games.

Their vast improvement over the past year led to one tongue in cheek question about future title aspirations, but Moyes was quick to be realistic and downplay such a notion.

"You always want to shoot for the stars and I'll always try and do that if I can," he added. "I think you always want to think, 'How can I have a chance of winning it?' At the moment it's way too soon... I said at the start that we're not going to promise things we can't deliver."

On Moyes' immediate agenda is beating Tottenham, who his side claimed a famous point against earlier this season after recovering from 3-0 down inside the final ten minutes.
