David Beckham’s son signs professional contract with Fort Lauderdale FC

Romeo Beckham officially signed his first professional contract with Fort Lauderdale FC, a reserve team for David Beckham’s Major League Soccer side Inter Miami.

The 19-year old made the announcement on Instagram after posting a picture in uniform with the caption “follow your dreams” and a bio update that reads “footballer for @fortlauderdaleFC”.

Fort Lauderdale FC is part of the USL Championship, a men’s soccer league originally founded in 2011 and currently sanctioned by the USSF as a division two professional league. 

After signing the deal earlier this week, Romeo could go on to make his professional debut as soon as Saturday’s home game against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC.

Several sources add that Romeo has been training with both Inter Miami and Fort Lauderdale CF in recent weeks as his versatility as a right-sided player makes him valuable in the attack and defense. 

Victoria Beckham hinted at the deal earlier this year in an interview with Vogue after mentioning Romeo training for an unmentioned team, saying: “Romeo has been training with the team over here every day, because ultimately that’s what he wants to do.”

More recently, Romeo has been spotted on multiple occasions with his father at DRV PNK stadium as David Beckham monitors the team as a part-owner. The two were seen kicking a ball around the field after Miami defeated Toronto 3-1 on August 21.

He is not the first famous offspring to sign for the South Florida USL side. Inter Miami head coach Phil Neville’s son Harvey signed a professional contract with Fort Lauderdale FC earlier this year. 

The championship team is currently in third place in the USL League One table, holding a record of 7-9-4.
