Daniel Levy & Fabio Paratici have different opinions on new Tottenham manager

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy and new football managing director Fabio Paratici are thought to have differing views on the club’s ongoing search for a new manager.

Spurs sacked Jose Mourinho in April and finished the season under interim coach Ryan Mason. But the search for a new permanent manager is yet to yield any success after a handful of near misses.

Talks with former Chelsea and Inter boss Antonio Conte started but further discussions were called off, while a deal to hire Paulo Fonseca fell apart at the 11th hour. Gennaro Gattuso was briefly considered prior to a fan backlash, and early hopes of potentially reuniting with Mauricio Pochettino were quickly ended by his current club Paris Saint-Germain.

Ex-Juventus director Paratici was only appointed last week and won’t officially start his job until July, but already it has been suggested that the Italian doesn’t have the same priorities as Levy.

According to football.london, former Roma coach Fonseca was ‘bewildered’ when his move to north London was called off, with he and his family apparently ready to travel to the UK. It is said that the Portuguese was left feeling there is a ‘big difference in opinion’ in the expansive and attacking football favoured by Levy and the more conservative style championed by Paratici.

While Fonseca’s camp got the impression that talks had gone well, it is said that some within the Spurs setup were perhaps not fully convinced by the coach’s ideas.

Spurs’ original shortlist of potential managerial candidates is believed to have been drawn up back in April by technical performance director Steve Hitchen. But with Paratici now brought in above him, Spurs will have to work out a new hierarchical dynamic.

It is said that Hitchen’s list has been binned, with Paratici pushing for his own targets instead.
