Jack Butland is set to join Crystal Palace on Friday after the club agreed a permanent deal for the player with Championship side Stoke City.

While the European transfer window has already closed, the domestic window has remained open, with the deadline set for Friday 16 October at 17:00.

Liverpool had been linked with a sensational (bizarre) move for Butland to solve their own goalkeeping issues beyond Alisson, but their interest has not been followed up. The 27-year-old will still get a chance to return to the Premier League, with Palace instead.

Butland is set to reunite with former manager Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park, the man who handed him his England debut back in 2012.

The Palace boss would go on to grant him three further senior national appearances during his time in charge, at a point where Butland was tipped to be the Three Lions' number one keeper long-term.

An injury in the build up to the 2016 European Championships proved to be a turning point in his career, since being relegated with Stoke City in 2018 and now without an appearance in 2020/21, sitting behind Adam Davies in the pecking order.

He did earn himself a place in England's 2018 World Cup squad, but failed to make an appearance in Russia with his last outing for the national team coming earlier that year.

Stoke, who have been open to offers for Butland this window, have now found a buyer.

Upon joining the Eagles, Butland will be in straight competition with Vicente Guaita for a starting berth. The Spaniard has wrestled the number one spot over Wayne Hennessey since joining in 2018, though Hennessey himself appeared to suffer a long term injury in Wales' recent win over Bulgaria.
