Confirmed England squad numbers for Euro 2020

Jack Grealish has been handed the number seven shirt for England at Euro 2020 ahead of Jadon Sancho, hinting at a major role for the Aston Villa star at his first international tournament.

Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling will wear number 10, as he often has done in the past for England, while Harry Kane takes the number nine – the same shirt he wore in 2018 when he became the first England player in 32 years to win the World Cup Golden Boot.

Marcus Rashford, meanwhile, has been assigned number 11. It is the first time the Manchester United forward has had a ‘starter’ number after previously wearing 22 in 2016 and 19 in 2018.

The aforementioned Sancho will wear 17, while Mason Mount takes 19, the same shirt he wears at club level for Chelsea. The same is true of Reece James, who has been given 24.

Trent Alexander-Arnold will wear 22, which is the shirt he had at the last World Cup. Phil Foden has number 20 at his first senior international tournament, the jersey Michael Owen wore in 1998.

Defensive midfielder Declan Rice has four, typical for his position, and Jordan Henderson has eight.

There are no real surprises among the defenders in the squad. John Stones and Harry Maguire have been given five and six respectively, which is the same as in 2018, while Kyle Walker gets two and Kieran Trippier takes 12. Luke Shaw will wear three

Jordan Pickford has kept the number one shirt, making it clear that he is expected to be the starting goalkeeper ahead of Dean Henderson, who has 13, and Sam Johnstone, who has 23.

England will play warm-up games against Austria and Romania in the coming days before their opening Group D game against Croatia at Wembley on 13 June.
