Charlotte FC are chasing Inter Miami center-back Christian Makoun, sources have confirmed to 90min.

Makoun - who can also play left-back - is the product of the Zamora youth system back in his homeland of Venezuela, making 32 appearances for the club before spending time on loan with Juventus U-23s in 2018/19.

In August 2019, he became Inter Miami's third signing after Matias Pellegrini and Julian Carranza. Since then, Makoun - who has captained Venezuela's U-20 national team - has made 30 appearances for the Herons, scoring twice.

The majority of Makoun's appearances for the Herons came in the 2021 campaign, amassing 2,023 minutes in MLS.

Makoun was protected by Inter Miami during the recent MLS Expansion Draft, meaning Charlotte FC couldn't acquire him via that method. However, sources have told 90min they are seeking to bring Makoun to North Carolina on a permanent basis via trade this winter.

Should that transpire, the highly-rated Venezuelan will join the likes of Anton Walkes, Christian Fuchs, and Joseph Mora on a talented CLTFC defensive lineup.

For Inter Miami, this would be just the latest in a series of outgoings as sporting director Chris Henderson and head coach Phil Neville seek to clear house ahead of the 2022 campaign.

The Herons failed to make the MLS Cup Playoffs in 2021 and have already parted ways with the likes of Carranza, Lewis Morgan, and Kelvin Leerdam, while Designated Player (DP) Rodolfo Pizarro has returned to Liga MX side Monterrey on loan.

Fellow DP Blaise Matuidi was left unprotected in the Expansion Draft and is also expected to leave the club.
