Christian Atsu found alive following Turkey earthquake

Christian Atsu has been found alive and is receiving treatment for his injuries after going missing in the aftermath of this week's earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake recently struck south-eastern Turkey and northern Syria and is believed to have killed nearly 5,000 people so far.

Ghanaian winger Atsu, who now plies his trade for Turkish Super Lig side Hatayspor, was reported to have been trapped under the rubble in a collapsed building on Monday.

Thankfully, the Ghanaian FA have revealed that Atsu has been found alive.

"Update: We've received some positive news that Christian Atsu has been successfully rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building and is receiving treatment. Let’s continue to pray for Christian," they said in a statement.

Atsu began his professional career with Porto before completing a transfer to Chelsea in 2013. He did not make an appearance for the Blues, instead spending his four years at the club on loan at sides such as Everton and Bournemouth.

Following an initial loan spell, Newcastle United signed Atsu on a permanent deal in 2017. He scored eight goals in 121 games for the Magpies.

He then joined Saudi side Al-Raed in 2021 before signing for Hatayspor a year later.

Atsu has been capped 65 times by Ghana's senior side, registering nine goals for the Black Stars.
