Chicharito and Alan Pulido paved the way this weekend for Mexicans playing in MLS. Each player thrived with their respective team, proving the value of the tunnel between Liga MX and MLS.

LA Galaxy’s 2-0 win over expansion team Austin FC featured another phenomenal goal by the rising forward Chicharito. He had a stifled start to the game after Austin goalkeeper Brad Stuver saved his mediocre penalty in the 26th minute. Stuver dove left, stopping the low ball from the Mexico international.

Despite the early blow, Chicharito regained confidence with every passing minute of the match. His reenergized comeback to the league continues to stun opposing defenders as they try to stop him during quick counter attacks.

Chicharito’s efforts culminated in the 77th minute after making a strong near-post run and powering home a cross from teammate Julian Araujo.

The forward extended his league-leading record to seven goals in five matches and continued to solidify his running for the Golden Boot.

Meanwhile, Pulido led Sporting Kansas FC to a 3-0 triumph over the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Mexican forward played an integral role in the team’s victory after combining with Daniel Salloi to become unstoppable to Whitecaps defenders.

Though Salloi opened up scoring during the 28th minute, it was Pulido that rang the game home by adding two more goals to the board. His first opportunity came after Salloi was clipped inside the box to award Sporting Kansas their first penalty of the season. Pulido managed to send Vancouver goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau the wrong way, converting the opportunity into a goal.

He then doubled his tally at the 58 minute mark after megging defender Ranko Veselinovic with a low shot from 16 yards out.

Though Chicharito and Pulido are merely two out of many Mexicans playing in MLS, they stand out after a successful week 5 stint.
