Chelsea and Everton face each in game-week two of the WSL season, with both clubs looking for their first points after opening defeats to Arsenal and Manchester City respectively last time out.

As reigning champions, Chelsea came into this season as favourites to lift the trophy again, but their 3-2 loss to the Gunners confirmed that competition at the top is going to be fierce.

Similarly, Everton were the subject of major hype during the summer because of their impressive recruitment but were humbled on an historic day at Goodison Park as a clinical Manchester City tore them apart by exposing tactical weaknesses.

Each club will be keen to make amends for those loss here.

This is everything you need to know about the game…

Chelsea fans will have to continue waiting to see summer signing Lauren James, who is still working on her match fitness following her transfer from Manchester United. Another summer signing, Aniek Nouwen, is likely to be on the bench as she continues to adapt to English football.

Fan favourite Maren Mjelde remains out for now but could resume training next week after recovering from a long-term knee injury.

Supporters will also be hoping to see Fran Kirby and Sam Kerr start this time after both came off the bench in the second half against Arsenal.

Everton team news

Everton were left tactically exposed by Manchester City in their opening game, which could prompt manager Willie Kirk to have a reshuffle ahead of this one against equally dangerous opposition.

Winger Claire Emslie will be pushing for a start after making a positive impact off the bench in that one, as will striker Valerie Gauvin and record signing Hanna Bennison.

Chelsea won home and away against Everton in the WSL last season by a combined score of 7-0. Hayes’ side also won 3-0 in an FA Cup tie in their most recent meeting in May.

They didn’t actually face each other in the league during the abandoned 2019/20 season, although Everton did win an FA Cup tie in September 2020 to show they do have it in them to beat Chelsea.

Chelsea vs Everton prediction

You have to assume that Everton will be less naïve than they were against City a week ago when the game was over as a contest in the first half. However, in Chelsea they meet another of the title contenders in quick succession and it tough to get just a point.

Prediction: Chelsea 3-1 Everton
