Chelsea rescued a late win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League at the weekend thanks to a spectacular Conor Gallagher strike, but now turn their attention to Champions League looking for a first win in the competition this season.

A shock defeat to Dinamo Zagreb on matchday one proved to be the final nails in the coffin for Thomas Tuchel, with new manager Graham Potter overseeing a draw with Red Bull Salzburg last time.

In AC Milan, they face the reigning Serie A champions, who have made a similarly inconsistent start to the new season. However, the Rossoneri have been better in the Champions League so far, taking four points from their opening two games to sit top of Group E, with Chelsea bottom.

Despite a number of pre-season clashes over the last 20 years, this is a first competitive meeting between these two since the first group stage (back when there were two) of the 1999/00 Champions League season. They also played three times in 1966 in the Fairs Cup, now the Europa League.

Chelsea team news

Edouard Mendy has been back in training following a knee injury and will be in the squad, although Kepa Arrizabalaga is set to continue getting the nod in Europe.

Kai Havertz and Jorginho have both trained despite suffering injuries against Crystal Palace at the weekend and would be expected to be involved, but N'Golo Kante remains out as he builds up his training load.

Whether Conor Gallagher or Christian Pulisic have done enough to start after making game-winning contributions off the bench on Saturday remains to be seen.

Chelsea vs AC Milan score prediction

Chelsea are not yet firing under Graham Potter and were less than impressive, notwithstanding their dominance of possession, in their late comeback win at the weekend.

It will be difficult for Potter to facilitate that improvement in only a few days since then, especially with a few injury doubts and players who might usually start short of match fitness.

Milan are depleted because of injuries and themselves left it late for their Serie A win over Empoli last time out, both conceding and then scoring twice in stoppage time.

In the end, they could just cancel each other out. But goals should still be expected.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-2 AC Milan
