Chelsea have unveiled the signing of teenage forward Lucy Watson from Sheffield United.

The 18-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year deal, keeping her with the Blues until 2024. Emma Hayes confirmed her immediate plans for the youngster were to send her out on loan ahead of the coming season to ensure she plays regular, first team football.

Watson is Chelsea's fourth arrival of the summer, following the additions of Eve Perisset, Kadeisha Buchanan and Katerina Svitkova.

"I am so proud to have signed for a huge club like Chelsea. I am very excited to continue my development and see what the future holds for me," said Watson. "Thank you to Emma Hayes and the team for giving me this opportunity."

Watson joined Sheffield United from Doncaster during the 2019/20 campaign, having made her debut for Donny as a 15-year-old.

She made her maiden first team appearance for United at the age of 16, and finished the 2021/22 Championship season with eight goals in 22 appearances.

The winger has also been capped at various youth levels for England.

"Lucy is one of the best young attacking players in the country, so we are delighted that she has joined the club," added Hayes.

"We have followed Lucy’s development for some time since her at time at Donny Belles, where Paul Green had coached previously and it’s clear she has natural talent and ability.

"Lucy has developed really well at Sheffield United and we now feel she is ready to make the next step. In the short term, we’ll be looking to send her out on loan for the forthcoming season to ensure she gains valuable game time."
