Bayern Munich have been tipped to join the race for Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen this summer.

Maatsen, 22, has impressed since joining Borussia Dortmund on loan in January but, as his loan deal does not include a permanent purchase clause, he will return to Chelsea at the end of the season.

He is expected to be made available for transfer this summer and, prior to joining Dortmund, signed a new contract at Stamford Bridge which includes a release clause worth £35m to set up a move away from Chelsea.

Whether Dortmund will pursue his signature permanently remains to be seen, but Sky in Germany state that Bayern are considering doing a deal as they prepare themselves for Alphonso Davies' potential departure.

Davies will be sold this summer if he does not accept Bayern's offer of a new contract by the end of the week, with Real Madrid looking to strike a cut-price deal for the Canada international.

While Bayern want to keep hold of Davies, they are drawing up a list of potential replacements if he does leave. AC Milan's Theo Hernandez is reported to be the German side's top target.

Maatsen is seen as another possible option alongside Girona's Miguel Gutierrez who, like Davies, also has interest from Madrid.

Since joining from Chelsea, Maatsen has managed 12 Dortmund appearances, all of which have come as starts. He has a goal and two assists to his name in the Bundesliga and also played every minute of the Champions League last-16 triumph over PSV Eindhoven.

Chelsea will entertain offers for Maatsen this summer as they seek to raise money for a summer transfer spree which could include a move for a new left-back, especially if Marc Cucurella also departs Stamford Bridge.
