The new Premier League season is right around the corner, and in anticipation of what promises to be an enthralling season, Chelsea have confirmed their squad numbers.

With so many new arrivals at Stamford Bridge this summer, there's been a fair bit of chopping and changing when it comes to shirts.

Let's check out some of the biggest updates.

1. Kai Havertz - 29

Handed the number 29 shirt when he first made his breakthrough at Bayer Leverkusen, Kai Havertz has grown so attached to the number that he has made it a core part of his social media handles.

He took over this number from Fikayo Tomori, who himself took Tiemoué Bakayoko's 14 but is close to vacating it by joining Everton on loan.

Before Tomori, 29 was worn by none other than Álvaro Morata, so here's hoping that Havertz's time at the Bridge goes a little better than Morata's...

2. Timo Werner - 11

Pedro's departure freed up the number 11 shirt at Chelsea, and Timo Werner has happily accepted that.

11 has been Werner's preferred shirt number for the last four years, and it's clearly a lucky omen as the German fired 95 goals in 149 appearances for RB Leipzig with 11 on this back.

It's a number which demands greatness at Chelsea. Worn by the likes of Bobby Tambling, Peter Osgood and Dennis Wise in the pre-Abramovich era, 11 was also Didier Drogba's number during his legendary stint at the Bridge.

Having said that, it did belong to Juan Cuadrado and Alexandre Pato in the 2015/16 season, so it's not all good.

3. Christian Pulisic - 10

Willian put a lot of pressure on himself by taking the famous number ten from Eden Hazard, but with the Brazilian now at Arsenal, it's Christian Pulisic's time to shine.

There can be no denying he deserves it. His 11 goals and ten assists in his debut season showed fans he's ready to become Chelsea's new talisman, and being awarded the ten shirt is just another sign of Chelsea's faith.

He gave up his old number 22, which has gone to...

4. Hakim Ziyech - 22

Having fluctuated between 10 and 22 since his final few years with Heerenveen, Hakim Ziyech has opted for the latter at the Bridge.

Some famous 22s? Well, it was Willian's number before he switched over, but before that, it was worn by the mighty trio of Mark Schwarzer, Ross Turnbull and Tal Ben Haim.

The Blues' most famous 22 is probably Eiður Guðjohnsen, who netted 78 goals for the club between 2000 and 2006.

5. Thiago Silva - 6

Few shirts in Chelsea's history have brought mixed fortunes quite like the six which will be worn by centre-back Thiago Silva last season.

Legendary defender Ron Harris wore the six, as did Steve Clarke, Marcel Desailly and Ricardo Carvalho. Pretty impressive company to keep, right?

Well, since Carvalho's departure in 2010, the six has been worn by Oriol Romeu, Baba Rahman, Nathan Aké and was most recently sported by forgotten man Danny Drinkwater.

Big shoes to fill.

6. Ben Chilwell - 21

Previously assigned to right-back Davide Zappacosta, the 21 shirt has been handed to new left-back Ben Chilwell for the upcoming season.

It's not a shirt the Englishman has ever worn before. He had the number three during his time with Leicester City, but that shirt is already taken by Marcos Alonso at Chelsea.

This was assistant manager Jody Morris' shirt between 1996 and 2003, while it was more recently worn by Nemanja Matić until his departure in 2017.

7. Billy Gilmour - 23

A bit of a strange one here. Young midfielder Billy Gilmour was initially confirmed to be keeping his number 47 shirt for the new season, but that number had been given to academy right-back Henry Lawrence as well.

Unable to have two players with the same number, Gilmour was later promoted to 23 following Michy Batshuayi's loan move to Crystal Palace.

8. Edouard Mendy - ?

Interestingly enough, Chelsea haven't handed out the number 16 shirt this year. Last season, it was worn by Kenedy, who has since joined Granada on loan.

Do you know who currently wears Rennes' number 16? Goalkeeper Édouard Mendy.

Stay tuned.
