A wasteful Chelsea fell to a 1-1 Premier League draw against Manchester United on Sunday.
Despite enjoying the lion's share of possession, limiting their opponents to just three shots and firing off 24 efforts themselves, the Blues were left disappointed at full time.
The hosts came out of the blocks strongly and David de Gea was forced into two saves before the five-minute mark. Callum Hudson-Odoi had the best of these chances, breaking free in the box and firing at De Gea following a pair of mistakes from Alex Telles and Victor Lindelof.
After these early scares United became more comfortable in their shape and limited Chelsea to efforts from distance. One of these pot-shots nearly opened the scoring on the half-hour mark with Antonio Rudiger's thundering effort clattering the bar.
Despite defending pretty well, United were pitiful in final third, registering an embarrassing 0.02 xG in the first 45 minutes.
That figure shot up five minutes after the break when Jadon Sancho was handed the simplest of chances. Jorginho failed to control a high ball under pressure from Sancho and Marcus Rashford and the former nicked it away, raced through on goal and calmly slotted it past Edouard Mendy.
Just after the hour mark, Chelsea were handed a lifeline when Aaron Wan-Bissaka wiped out Thiago Silva in the box following a corner. Jorginho stepped up for his shot at redemption and made no mistake, placing his effort into the bottom-left corner.
After this Chelsea were the only team that looked like scoring with Timo Werner denied by a last-ditch Wan-Bissaka block 10 minutes from time and Antonio Rudiger blasting a volley over at the back post in second-half stoppage time.
This was the closest the Blues came to securing the victory and while they remain top of the Premier League table, their lead is just one point following this weekend's results.
Here is how both sets of players rated on Sunday afternoon...
Chelsea player ratings
1. Goalkeeper & defenders
Edouard Mendy (GK) - 5/10 - Could not prevent Sancho opening the scoring but he was left in an impossible situation.
Trevoh Chalobah (CB) - 7/10 - Comfortable. Pushed on well at times too.
Thiago Silva (CB) - 8/10 - Still absolute mustard. His passing was superb and he even won the penalty.
Antonio Rudiger (CB) - 7/10 - Excellent. Mopped up the space behind authoritatively, with Sancho forced to feed off scraps. Also bounded forward with the ball but missed a sitter at the end.
2. Wing-backs & midfielders
Reece James (RWB) - 6/10 - Not quite as sensational as he's been in recent times.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek (CM) - 6/10 - Great press resistance. Nothing too exciting but neat and tidy.
Jorginho (CM) - 5/10 - Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Gifted United a way back into the game when Chelsea were completely dominant. Great before that in fairness.
Marcos Alonso (LWB) - 6/10 - Chopped and changed with Hudson-Odoi to cause United problems.
Hakim Ziyech (RW) - 5/10 - Had a few moments but his decision making was so frustrating.
Timo Werner (ST) - 4/10 - His lack of killer instinct remains a real issue. Needs to start proving his worth.
Callum Hudson-Odoi (LW) - 5/10 - Squandered a great chance in the opening exchanges. Delivery was pretty good but as the game went on, his early miss became harder to ignore.
Mason Mount - 6/10 - Put himself about.
Christian Pulisic - 6/10 - Set up Rudiger's chance at the end with a good cross.
Romelu Lukaku - 6/10 - Chelsea will be relieved to have him back.

5. Goalkeeper & defenders
David de Gea (GK) - 7/10 - Two absolutely vital saves gave United time to settle into the game.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka (RB) - 4/10 - Defended as best his could against Hudson-Odoi, who caused him issues in the first half. Gave away the penalty. Clumsy.
Victor Lindelof (CB) - 7/10 - Had a busy afternoon and grew into things nicely after a shaky start.
Eric Bailly (CB) - 7/10 - Fared well in the absence of the injured Harry Maguire. There's a case for him to keep his place when the United captain returns.
Alex Telles (LB) - 6/10 - Almost punished for a terrible mistake in the opening exchanges. Settled after that to prevent Ziyech getting into the game.
Fred (CM) - 6/10 - Functional. Overran in the first half and did not always take care of the ball. Improved after the interval.
Nemanja Matic (CM) - 5/10 - Loved the niggly first half against his former side. On the ball more than any other United player - which still was not very often.
Scott McTominay (CM) - 6/10 - Could not get near the Chelsea midfield in the opening exchanges but improved massively to put in a physical performance. Gave away a few cheap fouls. Ralf Rangnick should like him.
Bruno Fernandes (AM) - 4/10 - Absolutely terrible in the first half - his only involvements of note were him giving the ball away. Not a great deal of improvement thereafter.
Marcus Rashford (ST) - 5/10 - Barely had a kick before the break. Picked up the intensity in the second period but was booked for a poor challenge.
Jadon Sancho (ST) - 7/10 - Nothing to report before the break but kept him composure when it mattered. Replaced by Ronaldo on the hour mark.
Cristiano Ronaldo - 5/10 - Did absolutely nothing. A strange sub as it stifled United's counter-attacking threat. Booked for dissent.
Jesse Lingard - N/A
Donny van de Beek - N/A
