Charlotte FC have acquired forward Kerwin Vargas from Portuguese side C.D. Feirense.
He joins as an U22 Initiative player through the 2024 Major League Soccer season with the option for 2025 and 2026. He stands as the team’s second U22 initiative signing, alongside Brazilian forward Vinicius Mello.
The expansion side secured the move before the Primary Transfer Window closes Wednesday, May 4.
“We’re excited to finalize the transfer of Kerwin to Charlotte FC ahead of the transfer window closing later this week. He has quickly proven to be a goalscoring threat at the professional level during his first season in Portugal and has the potential to grow into a well-rounded forward in this league,” sporting director Zoran Krneta said in a release.
“He’s a pacy, direct forward who can play on the wing or at striker and is a courageous competitor. He is excited about the move to Charlotte where he can continue to grow into his own in senior football and we look forward to welcoming him in the coming weeks.”
Vargas is making his way to the American league after managing seven goals across 28 appearances for C.D. Feirense.
Now, he joins Karol Swinderski and Kamil Jozwiak as forward options for Charlotte FC.
The team has remained afloat during their inaugural MLS season, recording three victories, one draw and six defeats to maintain 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings.
