Charlotte FC scored twice in the last 10 minutes of play to mount a dramatic comeback on the road at Shell Energy Stadium against Houston Dynamo to win 2-1 and book their place in the 2023 Leagues Cup quarter-finals.

The Eastern Conference side left it late, but it's better late than never, especially in the knockout stage of a tournament.

Houston Dynamo thought they had the win all wrapped up after clinging on to a one goal lead for nearly 60 minutes. But everything changed when Patrick Agyemang was substituted on in the 72nd minute, and his cameo off the bench sparked a comeback for Charlotte.

Seven minutes after coming on, Agyemang bullied a Dynamo defender and race around goalkeeper Steve Clark to level the game with a calm finish.

Not even two minutes later, the visitors struck again and took the lead - after Houston center-back Micael passed the ball back to Clark, but the 37-year-old wasn't prepared. Clark wasn't able to stop the ball from rolling in with his hands as it was a pass from a teammate, meaning the Dynamo gifted Charlotte an own goal off an unforced error at the back.

In the first ever meeting between the two sides, Charlotte FC came out on top with a smash-and-grab victory, while the defeat leaves a sour taste for all associated with Houston Dynamo, especially the manner in which the game ended.

The North Carolina based club will travel to Ft Lauderdale, Florida, to take on the red-hot Inter Miami and Lionel Messi on August 11 at DRV PNK Stadium in the quarter-finals of the 2023 Leagues Cup.
