Charlotte FC 3-1 NE Revs player ratings: Swiderski inspires first-ever MLS win for CLTFC

History was created on Saturday night as Charlotte FC sealed their first-ever MLS win, beating the New England Revolution 3-1 at Bank of America Stadium.

Major League Soccer's newest club have been unlucky over their first three games, losing in unfortunate circumstances to DC United, the LA Galaxy, and Atlanta United.

But on Saturday, they got right down to business with an impressive Karol Swiderski brace and a goal from SuperDraft pick Ben Bender rendering Carles Gil's penalty utterly meaningless.

And while the upper tier of Bank of America Stadium was closed following a record-breaking crowd against the Galaxy, Charlotte FC's supporters still generated an incredible atmosphere for a historic occasion.

The win sees Charlotte climb to 12th in the East, while defending Supporters' Shield champions New England have just one win from their opening four games.

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Kristijan Kahlina (GK) - 7 - Forced into a challenge he shouldn't have had to make in giving away the penalty. Made up for it with a couple of huge saves and superb distribution.

Jaylin Lindsey (RB) - 8 - Was excellent at both ends of the pitch, getting forward well and making important challenges.

Guzman Carujo (CB) - 7 - Calm on the ball and solid without it. Quickly becoming a leader at the back for Charlotte.

Christian Makoun (CB) - 8 - Much more assured than last week in Atlanta, getting the basics right and using the ball well. Made a couple of huge interceptions.

Christian Fuchs (LB) - 6 - Was targetted at full-back for his lack of pace but held his own for the most part.

2. Midfielders

Brandt Bronico (CDM) - 5 - Covered plenty of ground but was very much the onlooker as the rest of the midfield got to work.

Alan Franco (CM) - 7 - Provided the assist for Swiderski's opener and was dynamic throughout.

Ben Bender (CM) - 9 - Has impressed across the first couple of games this season but really came alive tonight. Set up Swiderski's second then finished the game with a goal of his own. Provided energy and thrust in attack all night. The 21-year-old might be fresh out of college, but he looks a real talent.

Jordy Alcivar (CAM) - 8 - His assist for Bender was one of four chances Alcivar created on the night, highlighting just how important he was to the hosts.

3. Forwards

Karol Swiderski (ST) - 9 - At least stylistically, Swiderski has shades of Harry Kane to his game with the way he can link play and strike a ball so cleanly. The Revs couldn't deal with the Poland international, who scored two fantastic goals and on another night, could have extended his tally. More performances like this and Charlotte will quickly climb the Eastern Conference table.

Daniel Rios (ST) - 6 - Didn't necessarily do a great deal himself, but Rios' movement and hold-up play worked wonders for Swiderski, freeing the Polish striker up to tear the Revs apart.

4. Substitutes

Cristian Ortiz (for Rios, 65 mins) - 7 - Had plenty of dangerous moments from the bench and nearly scored in the final 10 minutes.

Sergio Ruiz (for Bronico, 65 mins) - 7 - Very lively, injected life into a tiring Charlotte midfield.

Derrick Jones (for Alcivar, 75 mins) - 6 - Helped settle things down just in front of the Charlotte defense, breaking up plays and keeping this simple.

Adam Armour (for Bender, 75 mins) - 6 - Ran hard once he got on, but no repeats of the huge piece of history he created in Atlanta last week.

Anton Walkes (for Swiderski, 85 mins) - 5 - Found himself in unfamiliar territory in the opposition box moments into his Charlotte debut but showed the attacking composure of a center-back. No time to do anything else of note.

5. Goalkeeper & defenders

Earl Edwards Jr. (GK) - 5 - Really can't be blamed too much for the goals.

Brandon Bye (RB) - 5 - Had a decent evening going forward but struggled to deal with Bender at the other end.

Omar Gonzalez (CB) - 3 - Failed miserably in getting to grips with Swiderski and Rios. Pulled all over the place.

Jon Bell (CB) - 3 - No better than Gonzalez.

DeJuan Jones (LB) - 5 - Like Bye, had his moments in attack but looked lost defensively.

6. Midfielders

Tommy McNamara (CM) - 4 - There was a war in midfield on Saturday and McNamara came out on the losing side.

Matt Polster (CM) - 4 - Alongside McNamara, Polster was outrun and outmaneuvered.

Carles Gil (CAM) - 8 - While his midfield teammates were chewed up, Carles Gil took the game to Charlotte. Scored his penalty, created some great chances, and came close with a couple of efforts.

7. Forwards

Sebastian Lletget (RW) - 5 - Tried his best to make things happen for the Revs but was far too wild with his shooting.

Jozy Altidore (ST) - 4 - Hold-up play was good at times but Altidore missed some big chances you'd usually fancy him to score.

Emmanuel Boateng (LW) - 5 - A couple of dangerous moments but far too quiet overall.

8. Substitutes

Arnor Ingvi Traustason (for Lletget, 72 mins) - 5 - Unable to change the game.

Justin Rennicks (for Boateng, 72 mins) - 4 - Had a great chance to halve the deficit but could only direct his header straight at Kahlina.
