The 2023/24 Champions League group stage is rattling towards its conclusion with Wednesday's Matchday 5 fixtures promising plenty of drama and intrigue.

There are eight games to enjoy, with some European giants eyeing up places in the next round and others at risk of dropping out of the competition entirely.

Wednesday could spell the end of Manchester United's time in the Champions League for this season, but they could also hand themselves a lifeline with victory. Arsenal are sat in the opposite situation as the Gunners look to book their place in the round of 16 for the first time since 2016/17.

Here's all you need to know about the eight Champions League matches taking place on Wednesday evening.

Galatasaray vs Manchester United - Group A

  • Location: Istanbul, Turkey
  • Stadium: RAMS Park
  • Date: Wednesday 29 November
  • Kick-off Time: 17:45 GMT / 12:45 ET / 09:45 PT
  • Referee: Jose Maria Sanchez (ESP)
  • VAR: Ricardo De Burgos (ESP)

This is where it could all go very wrong for Manchester United.

Were they to suffer defeat here, it would spell the end of the Red Devils' 2023/24 Champions League campaign. Galatasaray won the reverse fixture at Old Trafford and know another victory will see them progress if Bayern Munich beat Copenhagen like expected.

Man Utd have put together some wins in the Premier League since that defeat to the Turkish giants but have endured some bad results when it has mattered most in Europe in recent years. The win over Everton was certainly great preparation, but a lot will hinge on Rasmus Hojlund's fitness for the visitors.

Sevilla vs PSV Eindhoven - Group B

  • Location: Seville, Spain
  • Stadium: Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan
  • Date: Wednesday 29 November
  • Kick-off Time: 17:45 GMT / 12:45 ET / 09:45 PT
  • Referee: Davide Massa (ITA)
  • VAR: Paolo Valeri (ITA)

Sevilla still have a chance of going through despite managing only two points from four games in the group stage, but they absolutely have to beat PSV Eindhoven here.

There is a three-point gap between the Spaniards and PSV and Lens ahead of them, so Sevilla's best scenario is a win over PSV and an Arsenal victory against Lens.

They are not having a good season on any front, however, and sit 15th in La Liga. It's hard to back Sevilla against any team right now and an early goal for PSV would do them the world of good and probably set them on the path towards success.

Bayern Munich vs Copenhagen - Group A

  • Location: Munich, Germany
  • Stadium: Allianz Arena
  • Date: Wednesday 29 November
  • Kick-off Time: 20:00 GMT / 15:00 ET / 12:00 PT
  • Referee: Stephanie Frappart (FRA)
  • VAR: Carlos del Cerro (ESP)

In the less pressurised match in Group A on Wednesday, Copenhagen visit Bayern Munich who are already assured of their place in the last 16. The Danes were expected to be at the bottom of this group but still stand a chance of going through.

They are second coming into this matchday and level on points with Galatasaray. A draw between Galatasaray and Man Utd in the early game would suit Copenhagen, and while a victory at the Allianz Arena would be a shock result, weirder things have happened in football.

Arsenal vs Lens - Group B

  • Location: London, England
  • Stadium: Emirates Stadium
  • Date: Wednesday 29 November
  • Kick-off Time: 20:00 GMT / 15:00 ET / 12:00 PT
  • Referee: Artur Dias (POR)
  • VAR: Tiago Martins (POR)

Arsenal can qualify for the Champions League round of 16 for the first time since the 2016/17 season with a win over Lens at the Emirates. They will definitely be hoping to avoid Bayern Munich in the next round, which is why topping the group is so important.

The Gunners were not at their best when they beat Brentford late on in the Premier League on Saturday evening, but they will be able to field a strong team against their French opponents who won the reverse fixture earlier this season.

Real Madrid vs Napoli - Group C

  • Location: Madrid, Spain
  • Stadium: Estadio Santiago Bernabeu
  • Date: Wednesday 29 November
  • Kick-off Time: 20:00 GMT / 15:00 ET / 12:00 PT
  • Referee: Francois Letexier (FRA)
  • VAR: Jerome Brisard (FRA)

There was a chance for this match to be a lot more intriguing from a group standings perspective than it actually is, but there will be some great players on show regardless. Real Madrid are already into the last 16 with 12 points, while Napoli are second with seven.

A defeat for the Serie A champions would allow Braga to close the gap to one point behind them with a win against Union Berlin.

This will only be Walter Mazzarri's second game in charge of Napoli in his second spell and will be something of a baptism of fire.

Braga vs Union Berlin - Group C

  • Location: Braga, Portugal
  • Stadium: Estadio Municipal de Braga
  • Date: Wednesday 29 November
  • Kick-off Time: 20:00 GMT / 15:00 ET / 12:00 PT
  • Referee: Clement Turpin (FRA)
  • VAR: Willy Delajod (FRA)

Braga still have a firm belief of reaching the knockout stages despite being four points away from second with two games to go. The Portuguese side have to make sure they win at home against a Union Berlin side who have had a torrid season so far, both domestically and continentally.

Napoli will be the underdogs away at Real Madrid so if Braga can take care of their own business in Portugal, they could go into the final game away at Napoli knowing a win will see them reach the round of 16.

Real Sociedad vs RB Salzburg - Group D

  • Location: San Sebastian, Spain
  • Stadium: Anoeta
  • Date: Wednesday 29 November
  • Kick-off Time: 20:00 GMT / 15:00 ET / 12:00 PT
  • Referee: Mykola Balakin (UKR)
  • VAR: Tomasz Kwiatkowski (POL)

This was a very intriguing group when first drawn, but unfortunately for the neutral two teams are already through with two games to spare.

Real Sociedad are assured of their place in the round of 16 but both teams have reason to attack here because the Spanish side want to finish top and Salzburg need to ensure they get into the Europa League. They currently have a three-point lead over Benfica at the bottom.

Benfica vs Inter - Group D

FC Salzburg v FC Internazionale: Group D - UEFA Champions League 2023/24

  • Location: Lisbon, Portugal
  • Stadium: Estadio da Luz
  • Date: Wednesday 29 November
  • Kick-off Time: 20:00 GMT / 15:00 ET / 12:00 PT
  • Referee: Andris Treimanis (LVA)
  • VAR: Ivan Bebek CRO

Benfica have been one of the surprise packages in the Champions League this season, but not in a good way. The Portuguese side were backed by many to join Inter in the top two of Group D, but Benfica are without a single point after four games.

However, both sides still have reasons to fight. Inter want top spot and Benfica can still claim a Europa League place. Inter will be familiar with Estadio da Luz as they played there in the knockout rounds last season on their way to the final against Manchester City.
