CF Montreal youngster Ismael Kone has opened up on his failed move to English Championship club Norwich City.

As reported by 90min, the Canaries were at the front of a long queue of European clubs showing interest in Kone back in July, even traveling to watch CF Montreal's match away at D.C United and progressing to advanced talks.

However, negotiations eventually broke down with Norwich backing away after being unwilling to meet Montreal's financial demands.

Still only 20 years old and already capped twice for Canada at senior level, Kone will remain at Saputo Stadium to continue his development, at least for the foreseeable future.

Speaking to Montreal-based French-language outlet La Presse, Kone insisted his focus remains fully on CFM, despite the failed move to England.

“They came to the door, they made a concrete offer. Yes, they came to watch me, but we didn't agree on the business side,” he said. "I don't think about when I'm going there, where I'm going to be, etc. I focus on me, to become the best player possible and help the team. I focus on now and that's it."

The interest in Kone is understandable. The midfielder has made 18 MLS appearances so far this season, starting 13 times, scoring once, and providing two primary assists; more than playing his part in helping Montreal sit third in the Eastern Conference with a 10-point buffer between themselves and the MLS Cup Playoffs line.

Up next for the Canadian side is a trip to the Houston Dynamo on Saturday with Montreal looking to extend their five-game unbeaten run.
