The rivalry between Celtic and Rangers is one of the fiercest and most revered in world football, let alone just British football.

It is a rivalry that stretches well beyond the football pitch and brings out both the best and the worst in football fans, as almost all massive rivalries do. With the Scottish Premiership being what it is, the pair play each other incredibly frequently and almost every encounter is fraught with drama.

There have been some incredible matches between Celtic and Rangers over the years and there will be many more to come. Here is a look at five of the best, and the complete head-to-head record.

Celtic 6-2 Rangers - August 2000

This fixture came at a time when Rangers had dominated the past decade. Now, Martin O'Neill was in charge of Celtic and things got off to a pretty wonderful start.

Chris Sutton, Stylian Petrov and Paul Lambert all scored inside the first 11 minutes at Parkhead to ensure that Celtic had full control over Rangers. Sutton scored again and Henrik Larsson grabbed two of his own.

This would not be the only high-scoring match between Celtic and Rangers in the 2000/01 SPL season.

Rangers 5-1 Celtic - November 2000

Just three months later, Rangers got their revenge on Celtic. The Gers knew that they simply could not afford another heavy defeat against O'Neill's Celtic side, but they ended up handing one of their own out.

It was only 1-0 at half-time, with Barry Ferguson scoring the only goal of the game. Henrik Larsson got Celtic level with over an hour to go, but Rangers stepped up when it mattered. Tore Andre Flo, Ronald de Boer, Lorenzo Amoruso and Michael Mols all scored in the final half an hour and Ibrox was rocking.

Rangers had been chasing this Brendan Rodgers side down all season long and they knew they needed a win at Ibrox if they were to get ahead of Celtic. Things started very well, as Josh Windass broke through and put Rangers ahead.

Tom Rogic equalised but Daniel Candeias put Rangers back ahead. A manic first-half was ended by Moussa Dembele making it 2-2. Things swung in Rangers' direction again when Jozo Simunovic was sent off for a clear elbow in the face of Alfredo Morelos, and it was Morelos who missed a great chance to give his side the lead.

As it turned out, the 10 players of Celtic had enough to get all three points as Odsonne Edouard scored a great goal in front of the travelling fans to make it 3-2. Even with over 20 minutes to go, Rangers could not find a goal.

Celtic 0-3 Rangers - May 1999

Winning a league title at the home ground of your most hated rival is the stuff that dreams are made of, and that is what happened for Rangers in 1999. They had lost their title to Celtic the year before, so this really was the way to get back on top.

Goals from Neil McCann and Jorg Albertz in the first half set Rangers well on their way to glory, and McCann got his second and Rangers' third towards the end of the match. That sparked some scenes that, disappointingly, many associate with the Old Firm.

A coin was thrown from the crowd which struck referee Hugh Dallas. Celtic's Stephane Mahe had been sent off earlier in the match and the game ended with a straight red for Gers' Rod Wallace, and a second yellow card for Vidar Riseth which reduced Celtic to nine players.

This was Brendan Rodgers' first season in charge of Celtic and it was a relief for the club that he very quickly got a huge result under his belt against Rangers.

It was a very big day for French striker Moussa Dembele as he netted a hat-trick. It was 2-1 to Celtic at half time so the job was far from done, but Dembele's third and goals from Scott Sinclair and Stuart Armstrong capped off what was a wonderful performance from Celtic and a launchpad for an incredible season in which Celtic never lost a game and won the SPL by 30 points.
