Celtic went top of the Scottish Premiership after a merciless first-half display gave them a 3-0 win over Old Firm rivals Rangers.

The Hoops were unplayable before the break, racing into a three-goal lead and then managing the game perfectly to set up a blockbuster end to the season. They are now one point above their bitter foes with 14 games left to play.

After just five minutes the home fans were sent into delirium when Reo Hatate made it 1-0. Collecting a loose ball from a corner, the January signing took one touch to set himself before striking a precise effort into the far corner.

Buoyed by a braying crowd, Celtic were rampant in the first half hour with veteran stopper Allan McGregor forced into a string of good saves to prevent the hosts' lead from being extended.

Rangers barely mustered an opening before the break and seconds after Joe Aribo robbed teammate Scott Arfield of a clear sight of goal with an over-hit pass, the Bhoys made it 2-0. Hatate was the hero again, curling home after Liel Abada and Joe O'Riley linked up well.

Things got even worse for the Gers soon after with mind-bogglingly bad defending from Borna Barisic allowing Abada to convert Hatate's cross.

In the second half Celtic's intensity understandably dropped with Rangers occasionally being treated to a half-chance. Ryan Kent flashed a ball across the face of goal that was begging to be finished, while Scott Arfield fired off a long-range effort.

In truth though, Gers never looked like laying a glove on their bitter rivals with Celtic easing to a massive victory.

Here are your playing ratings from Glasgow...

Celtic player ratings

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Josip Juranovic, Ryan Kent

Joe Hart (GK) - 7/10 - Reacted quickly to snuff out Aribo's through ball in the first half. Very little else to do as he coasted to a 12th clean sheet of the season.

Josip Juranovic (RB) - 9/10 - The perfect full-back display. Did not allow his opposite number any room and also helped out in the final third.

Cameron Carter-Vickers (CB) - 8/10 - Never flustered, he distributed the ball extremely well. Just five misplaced passes all night.

Carl Starfelt (CB) - 8/10 - Equally relaxed as his centre-back partner. They were quite the pair.

Greg Taylor (LB) - 8/10 - Pocketed Amad in the first half with a physical performance. One last-ditch tackle was particularly enjoyable.

2. Midfielders

Reo Hatate

Matt O'Riley (CM) - 8/10 - Impressive. His decoy runs caused plenty of problems and his delivery was spot on most of the night.

Callum McGregor (CM) - 7/10 - Played his part in a dominant win but not as eye-catching as some of his teammates.

Reo Hatate (CM) - 10/10 - His signing was met with apathy by many Celtic fans, but two goals and an assist tonight means he will always have a place in club folklore. Ludicrously good performance.

3. Forwards

Liel Abada
Abada was excellent / Mark Runnacles/GettyImages

Liel Abada (RW) - 8/10 - Terrific for his hour-long stint. Set up Hatate for the second and combined with O'Riley brilliantly all game.

Georgios Giakoumakis (ST) - 7/10 - Led the line for his side selflessly. Unlucky not to score too.

Jota (LW) - 7/10 - Popped up all over the place linking up the play and generally being a nuisance.

4. Substitutes

James Forrest - 5/10 - Quiet.

Daizen Maeda - 5/10 - The fan favourite did not do too much. Then again, he did not have to.

James McCarthy - 6/10 - His introduction with 20 minutes to play was greeted with cries of: "oooohhhhh, that's where he is now," by all the first-time Old Firm watchers at home.

Ismaila Soro - N/A

Ben Doak - N/A

5. Goalkeeper & defenders

Liel Abada, Borna Barisic

Allan McGregor (GK) - 7/10 - The sole reason Celtic were not home and dry inside 30 minutes. May be 40 but still capable of some incredible saves.

James Tavernier (RB) - 3/10 -
Almost gave Celtic a goal in the first half with a terrible pass.

Connor Goldson (CB) - 3/10 -
Dragged around by the hosts' frontline. Not a good day at the office.

Calvin Bassey (CB) - 3/10 -
As above really.

Borna Barisic (LB) - 1/10 -
Properly bizarre defending for the third goal. Summed up a thoroughly disappointing performance.

6. Midfielders

James McCarthy, Scott Arfield

Scott Arfield (CM) - 5/10 - His late runs in the box were pretty much Rangers' only threat going forward.

Glen Kamara (CM) - 4/10 -
Made a few interventions but largely could not live with Celtic's rapid exchanges in midfield.

Joe Aribo (CM) - 3/10 -
Should have slid-in Arfield when the score was 1-0. If he had, things might have been very different.

7. Forwards

Amad Diallo
A real learning experience for the Man Utd loanee / Mark Runnacles/GettyImages

Amad Diallo (RW) - 2/10 - Resembled a lost child before being hooked off at the break.

Kemar Roofe (ST) - N/A - Was he playing? Are you sure? Are you sure that you're sure? Okay, fine.

Ryan Kent (LW) - 3/10 - Looked sharp early on but he's so frustrating. Ran down too many dead ends,.

8. Substitutes

Fashion Sakala - 4/10 - Dived right in front of the Celtic fans. He's a braver man than me. Better than Amad, which is not saying much.

Ryan Jack - 6/10 - Improved Rangers after he came on. They are much better when he plays.

Leon Balogun - 4/10 - Little to report. Picked up a pointless yellow card.
