Manchester United midfielder Casemiro scored an impressive seven goals in all competitions during his debut season with the club, but admits that finding the net is still not his favourite part of the game.

It is only the third time in Casemiro's career that he has reached seven goals during a single campaign, previously doing so with Real Madrid in both 2017/18 and 2020/21. Primarily considered a more defensive player, he typically gets fewer and managed only one in 2015/16 and 2021/22.

With United, he often found himself getting forward and chipping in with important goals – notably a stoppage time equaliser against Chelsea and the opener against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final.

Even so, the popular Brazilian remains at his 'happiest' when winning the ball back instead.

"Everyone likes to get on the scoresheet but a favourite phrase of mine is always that my ball-winning tackles are my goals," he told club media.

"That's what I really like doing and that's when I’m at my happiest. When I'm winning the ball back, helping out my teammates, getting my teammates playing and moving the ball better, closing down space and then ensuring that we bring the ball out from the back with quality.

"They are really my duties but, sure, everyone likes to score and create assists. We all like to, but in reality, my job and what I do on the pitch is something quite different, everybody knows that!

"I get the odd goal now and again but, of course, I'm not what you'd call a genuine goal scorer!"

Following his transfer from Real Madrid, which could reach £70m if all add-ons are triggered, Casemiro played an enormous role in helping United record only their fourth top three Premier League finish since 2013. The club will also be back in the Champions League next season.
