Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is suddenly under pressure in the wake of this week’s Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, with president Florentino Perez said to be ‘furious’ with the nature of the performance.

Ancelotti returned to the Bernabeu from former club Everton last summer for a second spell in charge, having been sacked by Perez the first time round just a year after delivering the club’s previously elusive Decima in the Champions League.

His Real side are currently four points clear at the top of La Liga, but a limited performance in Europe this week that saw PSG steal a late win has raised…eyebrows.

The Independent report that Perez and other senior club officials were ‘shocked’ at Los Blancos failing to register a single shot on target, and were ‘stunned’ by how few touches veteran midfield duo Luka Modric and Toni Kroos had of the ball.

With Perez left ‘furious’ overall by what has been seen within the club as one of their ‘worst continental displays in years’, Ancelotti’s job could be on the line in the second leg next month.

The suggestion is that Perez was conversely impressed with PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino, who has long been linked with Real at various points over the last five years. But the Argentine also remains a target for Manchester United, who remain on the lookout for a permanent manager.

A report from Barcelona-based publication SPORT has even claimed that long-term Real target Kylian Mbappe has been put off joining in the summer by the disappointing level he saw from them, while they also claim that Ancelotti could be 'kicked out' of the club by Perez - although they moot a summer departure is likely.
