After we were treated to the return of the Premier League at the weekend - providing you're not a Spurs fan - the Carabao Cup returned in midweek with top-flight clubs entering in what's now the second round of the competition.

Four Premier League sides were in action on Tuesday night attempting to secure a third round berth. So, what exactly went down? Let's have a gander...

The pick of the games turned out to be a goalless draw between recently relegated Bournemouth and Crystal Palace at the Vitality Stadium.

0-0 after 90 minutes, the pair dived straight into penalties - where a remarkable 20 spot kicks were netted in a row. Goalkeepers Asmir Begovic and Wayne Hennessey then proceeded to trade misses, before the Bosnian turned from villain to hero - saving penalty super king Luka Milivojevic's second attempt to win the shootout for Bournemouth 11-10.

On Tyneside, Ryan Fraser struck his first Newcastle goal as the Magpies edged past former Premier League winners - and now mainstays of the Championship - Blackburn Rovers 1-0 at St. James' Park.

Sebastian Haller was back among the goals for West Ham as his first-half brace put the Hammers in a good spot to progress at the expense of Lee Bowyer's Charlton Athletic. Felipe Anderson then netted his first goal since January - a strike that may persuade the club that he does have a future in east London - to seal a comfortable 3-0 victory for David Moyes' men.

Newcastle will now travel to Morecambe for their third round tie after they overcame Oldham 1-0, while West Ham host the victors of Wednesday night's clash between Leeds United and Hull City.

Elsewhere in the early set of fixtures; Bradford were thumped 5-0 at home to Lincoln City while there were penalty shootout victories for Gillingham and Watford over Coventry City and Oxford United respectively.

The late-round of contests saw Aston Villa come from behind to outlast Burton Albion 3-1. Colin Daniel opened the scoring for the hosts after just two minutes before Villa's big-money summer signing Ollie Watkins bagged his first competitive goal for the club just after the half-hour mark.

Jack Grealish then celebrated his five-year contract extension at Villa Park by completing the turnaround with just a couple of minutes left, before Keinan Davis' third added the gloss.

There was drama in east London, meanwhile, as Leyton Orient upset Plymouth Argyle at The Breyer Group Stadium after overturning a 2-0 deficit in the second-half. Danny Johnson scored a dramatic late winner after Louis Dennis and Jobi McAnuff had restored parity following a quick start from the visitors. They'll now host Tottenham in the third round.

Barnsley, Millwall, Luton, Fleetwood and Newport were also victorious on the night,
