Canada host Jamaica on Sunday looking to seal qualification to the World Cup for the first time since 1986.

The Canucks have long suffered on this stage but head into the final two fixtures top of the Concacaf table.

John Herdman's side could have punched their ticket to Qatar 2022 earlier this week but lost their unbeaten record with a 1-0 defeat to Costa Rica. However, Canada will confirm their World Cup spot this Sunday with any of the following scenarios:

  • Win or draw vs Jamaica.
  • Costa Rica lose or draw vs El Salvador.
  • Panama beat the United States.

Canada will obviously be focusing on keeping their fate in their own hands. Read on for broadcast info, team news, and head-to-head records:

Canada team news

From the side that lost in Costa Rica, only Mark-Anthony Kaye will miss out. The Colorado Rapids midfielder is suspended after picking up two yellow cards.

CF Montreal teenager Ismael Kone looked impressive during his short cameo debut and might well replace Kaye in the starting line-up.

Canada predicted XI: Borjan; Johnston, Vitoria, Miller, Laryea; Hutchison, Eustaquio, Kone; Buchanan, Larin, David.

The Reggae Boyz will likely field a similar line-up to the one that drew 1-1 with El Salvador last time out. QPR striker Andre Gray scored his third international goal in that match and will lead the line again. Jamaica players Javain Brown and Alex Marshall represent Canadian clubs - the Vancouver Whitecaps and Halifax Wanderers, respectively.

Jamaica predicted XI: Blake; Thomas, Mariappa, Lowe, Brown; Pearson, Williams, Walker, Howell; Gray, Marshall.

Canada vs Jamaica head-to-head record

Canada have won just one of their last five meetings with Jamaica, losing three in a row prior and drawing 0-0 in October.

Overall, the Canucks have the upper hand with nine wins to Jamaica's seven, though, with the other seven fixtures ending level. Only four of Canada's victories have come since the turn of the century, while the Reggae Boyz have won six times during that period.

Canada vs Jamaica score prediction

The Canadians will obviously be disappointed with losing their unbeaten record earlier in the week, with their long overdue World Cup qualification being postponed by a few days at least.

But in a sense, that defeat may be a blessing, with Herdman's side now having the chance to secure their spot at Qatar 2022 in front of their own supporters.

Even disregarding the quality of the likes of Jonathan David, Cyle Larin, and Tajon Buchanan, the 30,000 Canadians in BMO Field on Sunday will give the hosts a huge edge.

Prediction: Canada 3-0 Jamaica
