Caitlin Foord has signed a new contract with Arsenal, ending speculation that she could depart the club in the summer.
The Australian striker joined the Gunners in January 2020 and has gone on to score 23 times in 62 appearances - including a famous double against rivals Tottenham at the Emirates during the penultimate match of the 2021/22 WSL season.
Following her brace against Spurs, Jonas Eidevall spoke of his desire to keep Foord in north London beyond the summer. The 27-year-old's contract was due to expire in June, and reports in Italy had linked her with a move to Juventus - the club managed by former Gunners' boss Joe Montemurro.
“It feels amazing,” said Foord. “Since I joined this club, I’ve absolutely fallen in love with being here. I think I mentioned in one of my early interviews that I had lost my way in football a bit, but since being here I’ve absolutely fallen in love and found myself again.
“We’ve been inching towards winning lots of silverware and that’s definitely going to be the plan for next year. We want to win multiple trophies and I think with the squad, the team, the players and the support we have, we have the squad to be able to do it.”
Foord becomes the latest Arsenal first-team regular to commit her future to the club, after Vivianne Miedema, Steph Catley and Lotte Wubben-Moy all recently signed fresh terms with the Gunners. Like the trio before her, the length of Foord's contract has not been disclosed.
“Caitlin is a top player and an integral part of what we’re building her," added Eidevall. "Her contribution in both attack and defence are crucial to our game, so we’re delighted that she has signed a new contract. This is an ambitious club and Caitlin is central to that.”
