Leicester City centre-back Caglar Soyuncu is in advanced talks over a move to Atletico Madrid, 90min understands.

The 26-year-old has fallen out of favour at Leicester City in recent times, making just one Premier League appearances during the 2022/23 campaign. The lack of game time has been a result of a few seasons of underperformances at the club.

Soyuncu burst onto the scene with some outstanding displays during the 2019/20 season, winning Turkish Footballer of the Year, earning a spot in the PFA Team of the Year and establishing himself as one of the best young defenders in Europe. Since then, his performance levels have dipped significantly and he is now in the final six months of his contract.

90min understands that La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are his most likely destination as the club are currently in advanced negotiations with the player's representatives over a pre-contract agreement. They could also push to complete a deal with Leicester this month if talks go well.

As well as signing Soyuncu, Diego Simeone's side are keen to let a few defenders leave this January too. Veteran centre-back Felipe is of interest to struggling Wolves this January, with the club in dire need of a leader at the back following Conor Coady's move to Everton on loan in the summer, while Mario Hermoso is also available having played just four La Liga games thus far this season.

Atleti currently sit in fourth place in La Liga but are a whopping 11 points behind joint league leaders Real Madrid and Barcelona after 15 games.
