Will Gerd Muller's record of 365 Bundesliga goals ever be caught? It seems unlikely.

Is Robert Lewandowski giving it his best shot? You bet your life he is.

The Pole is undeniably one of the greatest goal getters in history and, like many other wonderful marksmen, has found his home in Germany's top tier.

While Muller's insane tally of 365 seems unreachable, Lewandowski is now in sole possession of second place when it comes to Bundesliga goals - and he'll argue that he still has time on his side to become the best ever.

But who else has enjoyed a prolific life in front of goal in Germany? Here's the top ten highest scorers players in Bundesliga history.

10. Klaus Allofs

Bundesliga goals: 177

Klaus Allofs became the first ever player to be crowned the Bundesliga season's top scorer with two different clubs, achieving the feet with Fortuna Dusseldorf and FC Koln.

He ended his career with Werder Bremen where, 22 years after his professional debut, he finally won the Meisterschale in 1992/93, leaving the Bundesliga with a whopping 177 goals.

9. Dieter Muller

Bundesliga goals: 177

Dieter Muller also scored 177 goals in the Bundesliga but is probably best remembered for scoring a staggering double hat-trick in a 7-2 win against Werder Bremen in 1976/77 - you won't be surprised to find out that no one else has yet managed to do that.

That season he ended up the league's top scorer with 34 goals - one of six seasons with FC Koln in which he scored at least 17 Bundesliga goals. Decent.

8. Stefan Kuntz

Bundesliga goals: 179

Stefan Kuntz is best known outside of Germany for scoring the equaliser against England in the semi-finals of Euro 96. He also scored in the shootout, and actually finished his international career undefeated - having played 25 times and picked up 20 wins and five draws.

Domestically, he is known not only for that, but for being a bloody good goalscorer. Kuntz ended his 15-year top flight career with 179 goals, having achieved double figures for goals in all but four seasons.

He was also part of the Kaiserslautern side that won the last ever Bundesliga contested by solely West German teams, in 1990/91.

7. Ulf Kirsten

Bundesliga goals: 182

During a 13-year stint with Bayer Leverkusen, Ulf Kirsten notched 182 Bundesliga goals - finishing as top scorer in 1993, 1997 and 1998.

He was an integral part of the Bayer team that were given the nickname 'Eternal Bridesmaids' as they finished Bundesliga runners-up four times, as well as in the 2001/02 Champions League and DFB Pokal finals.

6. Claudio Pizarro

Bundesliga goals: 197

It feels strange living in a world where Claudio Pizarro isn't playing professional football anymore.

The Peruvian scored a Bundesliga goal in every calendar year from 1999 to 2020, ending his career with six titles and 197 goals to his name.

5. Manfred Burgsmuller

Bundesliga goals: 213

Borussia Dortmund's all-time record Bundesliga goal scorer Manfred Burgsmuller had to wait 19 years after his debut to lift the Meisterschale, doing so with Werder Bremen at the very end of his career.

That didn't stop him banging in the goals throughout his career, though. He scored 213 in the German top flight, before kicking oddly shaped balls in NFL Europe until the age of 52. Why ever not, eh?

4. Jupp Heynckes

Bundesliga goals: 220

Legendary Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes is not only one of the game's greats off the field, he's also a man who achieved so much on it.

Playing for Borussia Monchengladbach, he lifted the Bundesliga four times, and also enjoyed DFB Pokal and UEFA Cup success. When it came to hanging up his boots, he could do so safe in the knowledge that he'd racked up 220 Bundesliga goals.

3. Klaus Fischer

Bundesliga goals: 268

Klaus Fischer wasn't just known for scoring acrobatic efforts like the one above, he was known for scoring goals over and over and over again.

Though he was only Bundesliga top scorer in one season (1975/76), he managed at least 20 goals in six of his 19 top flight seasons, and was one of German football's most clinical forwards.

He ended his career with 268 goals, having represented 1860 Munich, Schalke 04, FC Koln and VfL Bochum.

2. Robert Lewandowski

Bundesliga goals: 277

Fischer was the Bundesliga's second highest goalscorer for over 30 years, but his record was swatted away by a man known as Robert Lewandowski.

One of the best finishers the game has ever seen, Lewandowski has dominated the Bundesliga for over a decade - registering four seasons with 30 or more goals.

Eight Bundesliga crowns and countless other trophies attest to how good he is, while his strike rate of a goal every 103 minutes shows how often he's on the scoresheet.

He's already snatched Gerd Muller's single season record of 40 goals away from him after bagging 41 during 2020/21, can he go one step further and claim the all-time record...?

1. Gerd Muller

Bundesliga goals: 365

The man to beat.

14 seasons, 427 games, 365 goals. The legendary German's strike rate of a goal every 105 minutes over such a prolonged period makes his record almost unbeatable.

Muller won four Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich - among 14 honours he picked up with the club - and he was awarded the Ballon d'Or in 1970 - the season before his astounding 40 league goals.

Not bad, not bad at all.
