Forward Bukayo Saka has apologised to Arsenal fans for his penalty miss in the 2-2 draw with West Ham United on Sunday.

The Gunners once again spurned a 2-0 lead this weekend - having done so at Anfield last Sunday in a 2-2 draw - having taken what looked like a commanding lead in the opening 10 minutes of the game through Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus.

Goals from Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen pegged Arsenal back at London Stadium, putting a huge dent in the club's title hopes in the process.

As well as ruing the concession of two goals, Arsenal will also be ruing Saka's second half penalty miss. The star forward has been in stunning form all season, scoring 12 and bagging 10 assists in the league, but curled a spot kick wide of the post after Michail Antonio handled the ball in his own penalty area on Sunday afternoon.

Saka has since taken to his personal Instagram account in order to apologies to Gunners' fans for said miss, writing:

"Regardless of the outcome, I’ll always accept my responsibility. Apologies Gunners, I’ll do everything I can to make it right."

Speaking after the game to Sky Sports, Saka's manager Mikel Arteta was keen to back his star player following the missed penalty kick, saying: "A player who takes penalties misses penalties, I don't know anyone who hasn't."

Arsenal now sit just four points clear of an in-form Manchester City side in the Premier League table, with the Citizens also holding a game-in-hand over their title rivals and home advantage in an upcoming top-of-the-table clash between the two side.
