Brighton 2022/23 season preview: How to watch, summer transfers & league prediction

Brighton will be looking for consolidation and further improvement on their historic 2021/22 season in the upcoming campaign.

The Seagulls came ninth in the Premier League last time out, registering 51 points and 42 goals as they finished ahead of rivals Crystal Palace.

It's been a quiet summer in terms of incomings, though manager Graham Potter often squeezes the most and best out of his squad.

Brighton squad numbers 2022/23

Central midfielder Yves Bissouma has left the Brighton squad to join Tottenham, leaving the Seagulls lighter in the middle of the park.

Deniz Undav and Kaoru Mitoma have returned from loan spells at Union SG and could freshen up an Albion attack which did fail to fire during long stretches of last season.

Brighton key players 2022/23

Star player

Brighton finished last term in terrific goalscoring touch, which proved vital as they overtook a number of sides to finish the campaign in ninth - their best place ever in the Premier League - and Leandro Trossard was a major part in that improvement.

The Belgian scored in great wins over Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United during the final few months of the campaign and is one of their biggest goal threats, ending the term with eight league goals.

Manager Potter can chop and change his starting XI with regularity but Trossard should be a constant feature in attacking midfield.

One to watch

Having broken into the starting XI towards the end of last season, Moises Caicedo is likely to get even more time to establish himself as one of the Premier League's most exciting youngsters.

He left Albion fans with wonderful memories of 2021/22 by scoring in the 4-0 victory over Manchester United, having impressed with his forward passing and versatility in midfield. The Ecuador international will get plenty of game time following the departure of Yves Bissouma to Tottenham.

Brighton Premier League prediction

Brighton's end-of-season form propelled them to ninth last time out, a wonderful achievement for a club that had recorded finishes of 15th, 17th, 15th and 16th in their first four Premier League terms.

Right now, there is still the need for some additions in the transfer market. The departure of Bissouma is a blow, though Potter will still be happy with the volume of options at his disposal in central midfield.

Albion were prone to long spells without a victory - they went 12 games without success from September to December and lost six games on the spin in February and March - and any similar runs of form this year won't be desired.

The final finish may not be quite as good this time around should teams around them improve, but the Seagulls will have enough to secure mid-table obscurity.
