Brazil are obvious favorites of the tournament. The host nation’s form has been sublime thus far, winning eight of their last matches in all competitions. They kicked off their 2021 Copa America campaign with a 3-0 victory over Venezuela after great goals from Marquinhos, Neymar and Gabriel Barbosa.

As expected, the defending champions dominated the match against Venezuela easily. The upcoming game against Peru might not come as easily, however, Brazil is still expected to make an impact on the pitch.

Peru has been struggling as the team goes through a transitional phase. They finally picked up a win since 2019 after defeating Ecuador in a World Cup qualifier last week.

La Blanquirroja famously reached the 2019 Copa America final, ultimately losing 3-1 to Brazil. Peru hope to make a comeback in international football, starting with Thursday’s match up. They have no fresh concerns ahead of their first game.

Predicted lineups

Brazil: Alisson; Danilo, Militao, Marquinhos, Lodi; Paqueta, Casemiro, Fred; Jesus, Richarlison, Neymar

Peru: Gallese; Trauco, Abram, Ramos, Corzo; Tapio, Yotun, Carrillo, Cuevo, Aquino, Ormeno

Brazil vs Peru head to head record

The two nations have faced each other 48 times in all competition, with Brazil leading the record with 34 wins, nine draws and five loses.

As seen in the 2019 Copa America final, Brazil knows how to manipulate Peru and find the back of the net quite easily. Peru will be looking to avenge that result going into Thursday’s match.

Brazil vs Peru score prediction

Given Brazil’s selection on the offense, this should be a game of many goals. After their inaugural match, Brazil proved that despite last minute distractions, they are giving the tournament their all. Peru has managed to find the back of the net against the host nation, but their backline remains in reconstruction. Peru might not be a force to be reckoned with, but they might find the strength to contain Brazil.

Prediction: 3-1
